SERIOUSLY. This is what the crap Hollywood still puts out?
View MoreJust so...so bad
This is one of the few movies I've ever seen where the whole audience broke into spontaneous, loud applause a third of the way in.
View MoreEach character in this movie — down to the smallest one — is an individual rather than a type, prone to spontaneous changes of mood and sometimes amusing outbursts of pettiness or ill humor.

Although God knows they can become addictive they do sharpen up reflexes if played enough. One of the most popular seems to be Mortal Kombat and got so popular someone decided a movie could be made from the game characters. The best martial artists in the world are recruited by a Shao Lin master Christopher Lambert for a tournament that will decide the fate of the planet. This is held periodically it seems with alien races. You've got to win 10 contests in a row and if you do you can plunder the loser's planet.Earth's lost 9 in a row when help arrives in the form of Robin Shou, Bridgette Wilson-Sampras and Linden Ashby. Lambert's all star team is up against wizard Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa's crowd that includes a really ugly four arm creature looking like the Incredible Hulk. He does however have a weakness common to the males of the species.Mortal Kombat is not the kind of film you take too seriously, just relax and enjoyed the skill of the martial artists.

View MoreDebuting in 1992 by Midway Games, Mortal Kombat made a highly admirable appearance in the spotlight following its release. This video game franchise made for one of the most influential entries in the fighting game genre as well as video game industry as a whole. While the series garnered massive popularity among gamers everywhere, it also sparked a fair amount of controversy when it let gamers in on a surprise introduction of graphic violence at a time when video game content was limited to child-friendly territory, eventually contributing to the launch of the ESRB rating system. Nonetheless, the franchise continues to be highly successful both commercially and critically. But like many popular game franchise from the 80s and 90s such as 'Super Mario Bros' and 'Street Fighter', Hollywood was overly eager to grant audiences a cinematic adaptation of the games. This is where director Paul W. S. Anderson comes in the picture to translate our favorite MK heroes (and villains) to the silver screen, but with underwhelming results on bringing the spirit of the game to life on-screen; although not as inept as many of the other video game-inspired entries Hollywood has sprung on us. The film follows Liu Kang (played by Robin Shou), a martial arts warrior in search of Shang Tsung (played by Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa), an evil sorcerer responsible for the death of his brother. He joins forces with Hollywood actor Johnny Cage (played by Linden Ashby), special forces agent Sonya Blade (played by Bridgette Wilson), and a mysterious thunder god Raiden (played by Christopher Lambert) in a brutal battle against Shang Tsung and his evil forces that threaten to dominate the Earth. The 90s was the decade when Hollywood faced a long string of depressing attempts to translate video game universes to the cinematic world, as the results often came cheesy, or just plain bad (Take the Super Mario Bros film for an example); though it is safe to the lack of appropriate computer technology was to blame. Among the all video game-based action flicks we were granted with, this action adventure directed Paul W. S. Anderson (who would later go on to adapt the 'Resident Evil' series) stands as the strongest of the bunch. That is not to say that Anderson's directorial effort make for a compelling ride. The film treats us on an adventure following characters fans of the video games should be familiar, and it advances through a rather generic plot that grows a little tedious during the last act. For those who play the games however, are introduced to some familiar meat to the source material including some notable side characters that pop in and out of the plot. Through Anderson manages to capture some glimpses of excitement, they don't quite make up the shortage of thrills and elements from the game that are either lazily shoehorned in or not present at all. And the fighting sequences are in some degree entertaining, but ultimately cheesy especially with the (unsurprisingly) poor CGI. And with the notorious blood and gore from the games fizzled out with a PG-13 rating, don't expect to see characters' heads chopped off or Johnny Cage picking a bad guy in half with his bare hands. Though the characters here are likable in most sense, their charisma is sadly washed away the sub-par performances and redundantly cheesy dialogue which doesn't serve much justice, particularly for fans of the video games.Mortal Kombat is a mediocre action adventure piece that falls a bit underwhelming in translating its popular source material to the screen. Though it is somewhat entertaining for those who seek for a disposable martial arts action set pieces and a surface-level plot, the results of Paul W. S. Anderson's directorial effort render the film mostly forgettable, even for hardcore video game fans.
View MoreMortal Kombat (1995) is my favorite martial arts sci-fi action classic flick based on a video game that I have grown up! I grew up playing Mortal Kombat II video game, I played in a hospital with my friends. I heard about Street Fighter (1994) movie that played Jean-Claude Van Damme in it and that time I thought that movie is one of the best Van Damme movies, that just come out recently in the 90's but boy was I wrong! Street Fighter sucks ass! Jean-Claude Van Damme sucked ass in Street Fighter! Mortal Kombat is the opposite of that film, I love this film to death and it is my favorite Paul W. S. Anderson film that he ever directed! In my honest opinion I think is the best video game movie ever made, that was before Resident Evil movies were made! I love the theme song Techno-Syndrome (7inch mix) by The Immortals! I love this movie to death it is a classic my favorite childhood movie of all time!! Too bad it got a sequel 1997 and ruined this movie. This in my opinion is a classic Sci-Fi underrated martial arts flick that I love it so damn much!!! "A handful of people on a leaky boat are going to save the world?"Plot: Three unknowing martial artists are summoned to a mysterious island to compete in a tournament whose outcome will decide the fate of the world."Nothing in this world has prepared you for this." Summoned to a mysterious island, three martial arts warriors engage in the ultimate battle of good against evil -the supernatural tournament of Mortal Kombat. Starring Christopher Lambert (Higlander), Talisa Soto (Don Juan DeMarco) and featuring world class martial arts champion Robin Shou (Tiger Cage II), it's the most awesome, action-jammed, reality-shattering adventure the Universe has ever witnessed! In this movie we have a beautiful cast as Christopher Lambert from Highlander, Linden Ashby, Bridgette Wilson, Robin Shou from Tiger Cage II and Beverly Hills Ninja, Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa as the bad guy, every time I watch a movie from the 90's, I see this guy in it been a bad guy! Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa was a perfect choice for playing the bad guy sorcerer Shang Tsung, who killed Liu Kang's brother. I absolutely love this film, it is my childhood film, I love the fight choreography in this movie, the plot and story was really great. I really like the special visual practical effects and the fight choreographer did a decent job showing those martial arts. It has a beautiful ending, a beautiful song to the movie, I love the fight scenes with Johnny Cage and Scorpion and it is the best one in the movie, the fight scene between Liu Kang and Reptile is perfect the second best martial arts scenes. This is an awesome movie and the games are incredible. That has the REAL Mortal Kombat song. This is a film that is actually about martial arts tournament, it has a great characters. Johnny Cage is my favorite character of all time! Linden Ashby was so great and excellent as Johnny Cage I wish he would play more roles like he did his character. I really love this movie one of the most underrated 90's movies, I really enjoy and love this film it is fun flick to watch and I grew up with it! Overall: I own this movie on Blu-ray and I absolutely love this movie! I used to had on VSH both of the movies that my mom bought me Mortal Kombat: Annihilation on my wish list and I love this one but Annihilation was such a disappointment I hate that movie. I also don't get why this movie got so many hate? I love this film and I don't agree with critics and haters with this film! I think your wrong this movie get's 10 out of 10!
