MY DEAD GIRLFRIEND is a shot-on-video comedy horror movie from Canada about a guy whose girlfriend dies only to return as a zombie. He then faces a struggle to prevent her from eating all and sundry while he tries to cover it up. This kind of storyline has been done to death over the last decade and each time the writer seems to think that he or she is the first one to come up with the idea.In any case, this is pretty pointless, far too cheap and amateurish to succeed. There's nothing worse than an unfunny comedy and MY DEAD GIRLFRIEND is just that. The characters spout awful dialogue which is delivered in a whiny way by the actors. This really is as bland and predictable as it gets.

Whether or not we're talking about a zombie flick, whether or not it has a high budget or no budget, "My Dead Girlfriend" has some priceless zingers that'll have you laughing for a long time after the movie is over. Don't expect a madcap comedy like "Scary Movie", but the humor is more along the lines of Seinfeld or Friends... but with flesh eating zombies.Billed as a horror comedy, this movie puts more emphasis on comedy. There aren't a lot of special effects and surprisingly little gore. Instead, there's some great comedy dialogue and bizarro characters like "the super" who keeps showing up to fix the plumbing at the worst times, "the beer buddy" who insists he's an independent 40-year old while his mom yells at him to take out the trash, "the beer buddy's girlfriend" who is more or less the voice of reason to the point that she's calmly drinking brewskis while zombies are running around eating people's necks, and of course there's our hero, the clueless dolt who, upon accidentally running over someone, instead of--I dunno--calling an ambulance he calls upon the powers of demons to fix everything. The whole movie is very tongue-in-cheek and pokes fun at every horror movie cliché, right down to the anti-climactic line "this is generally when a cat jumps out". Also mocked are fake blood splattering scenes and a particularly voluminous vomit scene that must've required 10 gallons of pea soup, the chunky kind. This movie has so many quotable lines such as "Jesus! Who the hell throws an axe??" "Sorry, I got caught up in the moment." And "You're buying the milk... no you're buying the cow... You've got the milk you don't need a cow... uh.. Exactly!" And one of my faves, "I knew it, she's a stripper!"Tons more, but you really have to see the movie to get em. Like I was saying, imagine a sitcom with zombies and this is pretty much it. For some reason the Canadian accents make it even more hilarious. I don't know if director Brett Kelly and his troupe will ever be known as masters of the macabre, but they've got comedy gold.

I was impressed with the My Dead Girlfriend, it had everything I expected which was to enthrall us with good plot and character development yet with enough "zombie" to make it interesting (and quite funny).I was very impressed by Caitlin Delaney's (Amy) acting ability, she really convinces the audience that she is indeed a zombie. I was convinced the moment she died that she was indeed, no longer with the living.I only give it 8 of 10 because I think there should of been more effort in the scene ambiance lacked a zing and there was clearly a scene or two cut out (the girls going to the beach became an awful lot of people standing around in the woods alone, where one would of expected, well um - girls at the beach).

This is a low budget comedy horror independent film. If you cannot appreciate your comedy horror zombie flicks then this movie isn't for you. If you like to be entertained by funny zombies and don't mind the non-professional look, then you might want to check this out.Synopsis: This movie reminded me so much of "The Return of the Living Dead 3" because it uses a similar plot idea. A couple in love fall victim to a silly accident. The boyfriend loves her so much he cannot bear her death. Luckily, or unluckily, she comes back to life. Though she just isn't the same. Her bones are cracking as she awkwardly moves around and the boyfriend struggles to keep her new zombie persona a secret. There are some great funny lines in the movie. At one point, the female friend accuses the boyfriend of beating Amy (zombie girlfriend) after seeing her new Zombie look. The boyfriend trying to hide the truth frantically says along the lines of, "Your right, I I I, I beat her...I I I can't help it she just pisses me off." Cast: The cast is played by Brett's friends and students. A Caitlin Delaney plays Amy the Zombie girlfriend. This girl totally reminds me of a cute and funny ex-girlfriend. Her expressions and awkward Zombie acting are both great and funny. You have your naive drinking partying characters. The 2 girls, one of which is the short skirt wearing beauty. Personally, I loved the characters. Unfortunately the horror special effects are barely there. Their are lots of cutaways. I feel one thing for sure, Brett should do a sitcom. Judging on this movie and how it uses funny misunderstanding and acting, Brett might be a Seinfeld fan like myself. If he had money, good special FX, he could make a better zombie flick no doubt. In the movie their are obvious advertisements such as the comic book t-shirt wearing hot girl. The brewing company shirt showing in obvious full view. The couch with a huge label on it (L.L. Bean Manufacturing w/Phone Number). But I doubt that those companies gave much money at all. Hopefully someday he gets someone who believes in him and gives him a chance and funding. But from what I read, he doesn't make movies for money and just enjoys it anyway. This is a great campy horror movie to watch with your friends. It's like watching some sort of new Seinfeld Zombie flick. If you go into it with an open mind you might just like it. For what it is, I think it's good. If you go into this movie expecting Hollywood picture, you will most likely think this was a ridiculous movie.
