Wonderfully offbeat film!
What a waste of my time!!!
The performances transcend the film's tropes, grounding it in characters that feel more complete than this subgenre often produces.
View MoreAmazing worth wacthing. So good. Biased but well made with many good points.
View MoreGranted, if you're going to make a movie, you might as well have an "out there" concept like trans-dimensional hopping. But for whatever reasons for this idea, the only thing more unbearable than high school is seeing high school being portrayed for ages NOT OLD ENOUGH TO BE IN HIGH SCHOOL YET. Popularity contest plot frame, one-dimensional popular girl antagonist, blue-haired Mc Useless love interest, oh goody. But for the limited credit that it has, the movie does have the character emphasis from the show. And the interactions between the Mane 6 are the best part of the film. In addition, the human designs of the original characters are really good! The animation and what they do with it frankly, is why the movie deserves to exist. I mean, seeing Twilight adjusting to her new human body is just, funny! And the songs are, there.....? But then the villain is an idiot. Yes, set up a bunch of easily fortified conveniences, only to surrender. And then just jump on her and take the McGuffin with your bare hands, WHAT.So neither the train wreck the fans dreaded, but not the surprisingly fresh innovation that they hoped for.
View MoreWho even thought this was a good idea? Was there really someone who thought that My Little Pony would be better if it were humans in a high school? I feel kind of weird criticizing a cartoon for little girls, but I'm not sure if this was made for little girls. The TV show knows what it wants to be: a well-made animated series for children and their parents. This movie could just as easily be made for teenagers, or bronies, or to attract new fans. Since it can't choose its audience, it fails to appeal to any of them. Don't get me wrong, I can see why some people would like this, but I wasn't personally a fan. The characters still seemed to be keep in character with the show while making horrible decisions. The animation was amazing during the pony segments but was awkward in the human world. Meanwhile, the villain was bland, the romance was forced and never went anywhere, and the entire movie just felt like a mess. At least they somewhat improved it in the sequels, but I'll get to those at another time.
View MoreMy Little Pony: Equestria Girls is one of those films that fans will have to agree to disagree on it's just how it is with this film.Being this is the first film of the new series it was bound to get the fans talking plus having a different theme with the new series But the film does something to make it worth a watch if you're curious about it or want a family film or just a fan in generalThe plot centers around Twilight Sparkle must travel to a alternate reality in order to gain back a crowd stolen by Sunset Shimmer As the plot goes on you'll learn more about Sunset Shimmer and Twilight Sparkle in this film The animation in the film is pretty good with some good work on the visual effects as well they did time the animation to make it a enjoyable animated filmThe voice acting is good as well with a good cast though some of the writing in this film kind of felt out of wax but with the cast being Tara Strong,Ashleigh Ball, Andrea Libman, Cathy Weseluck, Tabitha St.Germain,Rebecca Schoichet, and others they did some good work with their performances but I have to get this one to Tara and Rebecca as Twilight Sparkle and Sunset Shimmer they gave the best out of the cast for their performances Music in the film goes up and down as we also get original songs for this filmThe cons mostly for this film: Some of the writing does feel out of wax also some moments in the film just make you want to shake your head Then again this film was targeted for a specific audience so need to keep that in mind But fans might enjoy it or animation fans in general it just one of those films that is going to be a opinion one way or the other I give My Little Pony: Equestria Girls an 7 out of 10
View More***********MAY CONTAIN SPOILERS************* Friendship is Magic takes the step on to the big screen in a fashion very typical to the times and the company that runs it, but still manages to feel outdated on many planes. The franchise dares play a wild card if only for the matter of about an hour, but still plays it incredibly safe with almost no surprises along the way.The lovable ponies from the magical and mythical land of Equestria (or one of them, technically speaking) travels through a portal in pursuit of something of great importance into the human world and takes on the challenges of high school. The movie serves one purpose, and it is sadly not for the greater good of the show it represents, though it is clear that the team working on the movie worked hard with the material given to them.Once the great change of environment occurs, about ten minutes into the movie, the animation takes a considerable and notable dent compared to the fluency one is used to see from the show, but it is something one gets used to eventually. The music, which soon after makes its introduction, plays on the most generic strings imaginable for the setting. At least the music sets a tone for the movie that gives it a certain atmosphere all the way through. But Daniel Ingram, the songwriter for Friendship is Magic, can do much better than this. Most of the reintroduced characters are well portrayed, but the new ones are paper thin, barely qualifies for three dimensions, and are almost reduced to nothing but plot points or concept fodder. The overarching plot is the trillionth of its kind and is full of bad contrivances that somehow leads up to a rather bombastic, and for the movie uncharacteristic, finale. It is still something that fans of the show would have seen coming miles away, however. Plotpoints set up from the beginning of the movie are almost never commented on, and are resolved with little relevancy to the events that occur. The biggest question one might have when finishing the movie is what the point of it all actually was. The only character who learned anything from the experience was Twilight Sparkle, since all the other characters were copies of the actual characters who weren't there to experience the events with her, and the lesson she learned was not a big one, or something she did not know before. It is hard to see a point to a movie as bland as this, unless you are a die hard fan of the franchise. The movie is not completely devoid of entertainment value, it is not a movie that will make you wish you had decided to do something much better with your time that day, but ultimately, it leaves little to nothing of value for any viewer. In the end, it feels like making a good movie was the least of all priorities when this movie was conceptualized.
