Dreadfully Boring

I enjoyed watching this film and would recommend other to give it a try , (as I am) but this movie, although enjoyable to watch due to the better than average acting fails to add anything new to its storyline that is all too familiar to these types of movies.

Horst in Translation (filmreviews@web.de)

"O Palmenbaum" is a German/Austrian television film from 2000, so this one had its 15th anniversary last year. It was directed by Xaver Schwarzenberger and written by his wife Ulrike. This is a combination that also happened on "Single Bells", the first film from this duology. Sadly, I have not yet managed to check that one out, so maybe it was necessary to do so in order to enjoy this sequel. This should never be the case though that you need to see a film in order to understand and enjoy another. But maybe it isn't here and this one is just forgettable in general. The only really known cast member in here is Martina Gedeck, who looks absolutely stunning once again. The other actors are mostly fine too. I don#t think the performances were the problem here. It was mostly the screenplay. It is still somewhat watchable early on before they take off to Mauritius, but afterward it is extremely bland and uninteresting. Maybe it was also too many characters for a film under 90 minutes. But whatever it was, this film lacked moments completely that were somewhat memorable. Also I cannot really take it seriously from a dramatic perspective. The drama on the island felt particularly unauthentic I must say. And it's not funny enough as a comedy either, even if there is an entertaining scene here and there. Nothing stays in the mind about that one. I give it a thumbs-down. And I am not angry at all that no third film has been made (yet).
