ridiculous rating
I saw this movie before reading any reviews, and I thought it was very funny. I was very surprised to see the overwhelmingly negative reviews this film received from critics.
View MoreFun premise, good actors, bad writing. This film seemed to have potential at the beginning but it quickly devolves into a trite action film. Ultimately it's very boring.
View MoreIt’s not bad or unwatchable but despite the amplitude of the spectacle, the end result is underwhelming.
View MoreThis film opens up with a mother discovering her young son with a jigsaw puzzle of a naked woman. He responds to her rage by graphically axing her to death. This pretty much sets the tone for what is to come. Graphic gore, gratuitous nudity, red herrings, horrendously bad dialogue and gaffs galore this is a bad movie. But it's also an immensely enjoyable one. I like it so much that I own it on pre cert VHS, have 3 copies on DVD and will probably also purchase on BR. I just don't tire of watching it. And it's not all bad. The gore is decent. The girls are attractive. It's also part Italian and there are effective giallo elements here. Essential viewing to slasher fans.
View MoreThis is the kind of movie that inspires Joe Bob Briggs-type lists: "8 breasts. Shower scene. Pool scene. Aerobics scene. Gallons of blood. Heads roll. Various body parts roll. Random attack by college kung fu professor. Gratuitous Paul Smith beating up other people scene. Triple "Bastaaaaaaaard" scream". And so on. The opening sequence sets the tone, which is maintained until the mind-numbing "shock" ending: "Pieces" is astonishingly gory (more than a "Friday The 13th" film, for example), but so poorly written and/or dubbed that there are no chances of it being taken seriously or disturbing anyone. What has to be said is that Juan Piquer Simón understands the genre of the slasher movie, and gives the audience exactly what they came to see. ** out of 4.
View MoreThis is a fun horror film that takes you back to a time when horror was fun and over the top. The violence and premise is so over the top I'm astounded that people are offended. It's ridiculous, but that is the fun. The film follows a serial killer who is chopping up co-eds in the college town. A deal is struck to go under cover and yes the execution is as fun and ridiculous as it sounds! Throughout the film people are killed and the most absurd ways. I won't give any away, but I was shaking my head and disbelief and waiting the next absurd scenario. The film also has shaky dubbing and the acting and script so over the top it is impossible not to be entertained by this Grindhouse classic!
View MoreReading some of the negative reviews it appears that people have forgotten that this film is supposed to be violent, over the top, and ridiculous. You don't watch "Pieces" for high art, you watch it to be ghastly entertained. The deaths, the premise and the acting is so deliciously over the top it is impossible not to enjoy. Furthermore it plays with horror convention. Naked actreess are slaughtered, the twists are telegraped and the dilaougue is cheesy in the most delightful way. Maybe I'm biased because I love a good b-movie, but this film delivers on exactly what it sees it will, and most movies can't claim that!
