Porky sets sail for the Boola-Boola islands in the South Seas with a ship full of general merchandise and plans to open a 5 & 10 cent store. But a swordfish cuts a hole in the ship and Porky's goods fall into the ocean, where the fish make creative uses of them, ultimately opening a Hollywood nightclub, complete with fish impersonating various stars.

Great story, amazing characters, superb action, enthralling cinematography. Yes, this is something I am glad I spent money on.

The movie's not perfect, but it sticks the landing of its message. It was engaging - thrilling at times - and I personally thought it was a great time.

. . . Warner Bros. warns America (well in advance, one could say) with PORKY'S FIVE & TEN. This animated short opens with a March 24, 1938, newspaper headline about Beloved U.S. President FDR seeing off small businessman Porky Pig on his trade mission to Boola Boola. Since the Red Commies were on the march all over the world (then, as now), FDR volunteered to serve 16 years as Our Commander-in-Chief. Wishing to Lord it over We Blue Collar Union Label Working Class Average Normal Americans like the Oligarchical Greedhead Terrorist Czars of Red Commie KGB-ruled Russia, the U.S. Billionaire Rich People's Party then term-limited Our Beloved Osama-Killing Leader Obama to only eight years in office (at the end of which he could have beaten KGB Chief Vlad "Mad Dog" Putin's Puppet Rump by AT LEAST 10 million votes!). Though Rump STILL lost the 2016 Election by a 21st Century record defeat margin of 3 million votes, Putin's Hackers rigged the outcome for Rump's catastrophic Misrule to Destroy America. Warner Bros.' animators foreshadow ALL of these developments step-by-step during FIVE & TEN (Rump, for instance, is the pudgy little black guard minnow to which swordfish Putin gives his unscrewed sword). Then Warner uses the water spout which restores Porky's STOLEN birthright at the finish here to call for the retroactive abolition of BOTH the "Trump University"-like "Electoral College" AND U.S. Presidential term limits, so that Obama can immediately move back into HIS and OUR White House to keep us safe for at least another 12 years!

The above quote is from the version of "Hooray for Hollywood" performed in this cartoon short. It's obvious that Warner Bros. didn't want to plug Disney character Donald Duck when they now had their own star duck (created just the year before) to publicize. Anyway, Porky sails ship to open a store somewhere on an island but a swordfish opens the bottom and all the contents fall out. As a result, a swanky nightclub opens underwater with many celebrities impersonated there. Bob Clampett does many funny spot gags here like a fish swallowing a radio and getting bombarded with sounds of gunshots which causes him to...oh, watch the short which is available on the DVD of Hollywood Hotel as an extra. Quite hilarious and very amusing.

This black & white short from Looney Tunes was included on the DVD for "Hollywood Hotel". I DON'T recommend you rush out to see the feature, as it's not particularly good. Perhaps at least the cartoon is worth a look.Porky Pig is planning on opening a 5 & 10 cent store on a Pacific island(!). On the way, the boat is sabotaged by fish and they steal some of his housewares. So, you get to see fish swallow radios, clocks and the like with semi-humorous results. Then, very strangely, the fish all begin acting and looking like Hollywood stars--and it's pretty strange having all this accompanied with the tune "Hooray for Hollywood". Quite surreal, actually. Then, from out of no where, a waterspout arrives and saves the day for Porky. Weird, but enjoyable.

Not one of Porky's best shorts. Some of the jokes are funny but some are not. There are some funny caricatures of famous movie stars though and the use of Porky's things by the fish is also funny. So it's an all right short from Warner Bros. Not the best but still good.
