Awesome Movie

RipDelight

This is a tender, generous movie that likes its characters and presents them as real people, full of flaws and strengths.

ChicDragon

It's a mild crowd pleaser for people who are exhausted by blockbusters.

Quiet Muffin

This movie tries so hard to be funny, yet it falls flat every time. Just another example of recycled ideas repackaged with women in an attempt to appeal to a certain audience.

This short is a high water mark for animation and, I dare say, art in the 20th century. As a child, I remember my first realization of what "genius" truly meant was from a scene in this cartoon. When Bugs is massaging Elmer's head and Bugs' feet come up to help in the massage I remember feeling a level of humor beyond anything I had experienced to that point. The flowers sprouting from his meaty bald head then pushed it to another level. I didn't know the word yet but my young mind had its first notion of the "sublime".Other scenes touched that depth of humor as well. The "razor charming" scene, the race of the barber chairs to crazy heights, the lyrics for the songs, etc.Pure comedy gold.

This is a great animated short featuring Bugs Bunny and Elmer Fudd who is, as usual, trying to kill him.The film opens in a theatre where they are preparing for a performance of The Barber of Seville. Before the opera starts Bugs enters the theatre being followed by Elmer how ends up on stage. The conductor starts the orchestra playing and Bugs, taking the role of the barber invites Elmer into his shop for a shave. What follows is hilarious as Bugs shaves Elmer with a cut throat razor, makes a large salad on his head and even proposes to him although unlike the later operatic short "What's Opera, Doc" Elmer ends up in the role of the bride.Chuck Jones has done a great job matching the animation to the music with hilarious results, he even manages to make Bugs giving Elmer a scalp massage laugh out loud funny.

...to describe the insanity of this gem! My children & I sing the song, starting with "Hey yyoooooouuuuuuuuu!" I used to look forward to Cartoon Network's "June Bugs" promotion every year, since they would show all of the Bugs Bunny cartoon classics, and I got to see this one. Alas, they don't do it any more! BRING BACK LOONEY TUNES ON TV -- I WANT MY LOONEY TUNES ON TV!!!!!!Every step of the way, you cannot stop laughing at this cartoon. I also enjoy the "What's Opera, Doc?" short, but agree that this one definitely surpasses that one. It should certainly be on a video or DVD somewhere!

This animated short is from what dreams are made. Its musical direction, humour, animation, build up and climax are flawless. It is funny that this small animated feature is worthy of such praise, no matter how great it is. However, the fact that this cartoon is only six minutes long means that it can achieve said perfection. Recent, much longer, fantasy epics are some of the greatest films of all time, however, their length (which is totally necessary) adds to the potential for problems.Yet, to say that "The Rabbit of Seville" is short but sweet is akin to saying the battle of Stalingrad was a "bit messy".Chuck Jones, Mel Blanc and all involved created perfection with this, all further attempts at animated comic shorts should be judged by this standard of excellence.
