I didn't know I was missing something until I saw this movie. Ram gopal verma has changed his genre often from love triangle, crime, horror and documentary but Rangeela has a special place among them. Urmila was seduction personified, she danced live a swan while great styling and cinematography added to the charm. Amir khan showed his early shades of tapoori(low-life bum) acting in this movie which was funny at the same time heart warming, later he acted in Ghulam on the similar lines. Jackie can't dance but this is more than compensated by his acting. Another aspect of the movie are songs and their execution which is even more pleasing to watch than the movie itself. I must watch for any Hindi movie buff and also for a peek into early works for Ram Gopal verma.

RGV who now does nonsense mostly did some great films till COMPANY and SARKAR RANGEELA is a true funny movie and a nice romantic movie tooThe film also at it's times was perhaps the first movie to show bollywood digs which is now done to death and the digs are damn funnyEven the characterization of Aamir and his love to Urmila is fantastic The film is handled brilliantly only it dips in between with too many songs especially in the second half and also too many sleazy shots of Urmila which were shocking then but it was forgiven too then The climax too is brilliantDirection by RGV is brilliant Music is a winner Amongst actors Aamir got a huge turning point in this movie, though he was always praised in films like JJWS, QSQT, DIL in between 1993- 1995 after HHRPK he started getting many flops which include the one of the top comedies ANDAZ APNA APNA(1994) where too his comic act was praised but RANGEELA gave him a big hit and he got praised for his role The best part is the way he grabs the nuances of the role and makes a tapori role seem his second skin He is outstanding Urmila too does a good job though at times too over enthusiastic Jackie Shroff however has a shorter role and he does it well but his looks(perhaps now) don't suit the superstar tag Amongst rest Avtar Gill is funny, Achyut Podar is likable and so is Reema Lagoo rest are good too

An aspiring actress, a love triangle, a small town girl's ambition are the catch words of the movie. This Ram Gopal Verma movie made a star out of Urmila who until then was a average actress. Mili (Urmila) is a small town girl who wants to make it big as a actress in Bollywood. Munna is a small time black marketeer and Mili's neighbour is in love with Mili but doesn't realize it until something knocks him.Raj Kamal (Jackie Shroff) is a superstar in Hindi Movies and is adored by all including Mili. He is the star of the nation. After some tragedy on home front he has become a bit aloof. Once he spots Mili on a beach where Mili is dancing and asks her to act in a movie opposite her. Mili can't believe but then she is signed by Raj Kamal for his next movie. Munna is a simpleton who believes whatever they show in the movie are true. He thinks Mili is in love with Raj Kamal. Hence, he start ignoring Mili, and this disturbs Mili a lot. When she tells Raj Kamal that he loves Munna, Raj Kamal is shattered but like a true lover makes way for Munna for Mili. And the love story ends here.A nice movie by RGV, the movie was a super-hit as most of the common people saw themselves in Munna. The story looked very real. All the songs including the background score, direction, cinematography was outstanding. This was an out and out Urmila movie but then Aamir was also upto mark.

With Rangili "Urmila" dancing tirelessly every quarter of an hour, this movie is a feast from frame 1 to the end. Excellent performances by both Aamir and Urmaila produce some enchanting moments but it is the underplayed role by Jackie that goes to make this movie a complete entertainer. The music by A.R. Rahman is one of its own kind.A must see.
