Carolinian Blake Beckett (Pepper Sweeney), the son of a stock car racing legend, is a 4-time short track racing champion. Blake never made it to the speedways of the National Cup Racing circuit, but surely he could still have a shot? The daily life experiences of Blake's family and crew are exposed through unique characters that work and play through the weeks that culminate in 120 mph Saturday nights.

Masterful Movie

An unexpected masterpiece

It’s an especially fun movie from a director and cast who are clearly having a good time allowing themselves to let loose.

It is both painfully honest and laugh-out-loud funny at the same time.

I thought the film was fantastic. Caught it just recently on Direct TV. Hope it gets on Netflix or On Demand with some major cable companies soon cause I've recommended it to about 6 or 7 people all of course who just don't happen to have Direct TV. I wouldn't be surprised if it pops up on Netflix soon considering they seem to find all the good content.

I was able to watch Short Track straight through without being bored or disappointed, which is a lot to say for a low budget movie about stock car racing that has very little actual stock car racing in it. This is a movie about the interaction of family and friends, not about the action of racing. The plot is a bit formulaic like a Lifetime movie but the combination of script, acting and downright hokey sentimentality helps pull this off. It's a pretty good film. I was a bit surprised that there was no final big race scene, since the entire movie was leading up to that, but I suppose that simply was not in the budget for this one. I rate films for what they are, and for a low budget drama portraying a very simple story about human interaction this one deserves a high rating.

Excellent racing footage! Fast and fresh! It made me feel like I was back on the track myself. And while I'm not a southern boy, I sure know these characters. I've worked with them before. The race announcer had to be a genuine pro. He was just too good. And there's lots of other realistic touches here. The main character, Blake, is not your typical larger-than-life movie dude. He's just a regular guy dealing with business and family problems, and chasing his own dream while he's at it. He's one of those guys who are just likable, and you really want to see him win.The young couple was like a mirror reflection of the parents' romance, which was still very much alive and kicking. (I'm glad to see that you can be over 40 and not dead!) The young actors actually looked like they were genuinely having fun. Ann Bratton is hot.Good laughs and generally a good time watching this one.

I was pleasantly surprised at how good this movie was. We are not really race fans, but the story was really interesting and the racing looked really cool. The two main characters were really good. It was good to see a married couple get along in a movie. I'm sure we would have enjoyed it more if we knew more about car racing. The racer crew guys were really funny. My 12 year-old son really liked the guys that worked in the workshop. My teenage daughter really liked the love story between the two young characters. Usually movies made about southern people are so unlike what it is like to live here in the south, but this was not the case here with this movie. I highly recommend this movie to anyone interested in car racing or in a good feel good or family movie.
