I want all to be aware I speak of parts of this film and not sure if they will be considered spoilers. I let all who read this know this in advance. Simply stated the "Sinbad" movies I grew up watching in the 70's and 80's had better acting and graphics then this "movie"! It was so poorly done and the fight scenes were pathetic. I was lulled into watching the entire movie just hoping there may be a glimmer of good. There was not! The creators, directors or producers need to go back to school and learn how to make a "real" film because they did not have any skills in this one. Very poor quality, animation and overall it was terrible! The saga of Sinbad was given a very poor adaptation here and this movie should be removed from such a fantastic legacy of real Sinbad stories. The animation effects of the creatures in this film was so pathetic it made me feel so cheated. They were so fake that one could not even feel a tiny bit of excitement. Childish and so crude these effects were that they left me in a state of disbelief this film was ever released to the screen. If you want boredom, lackluster acting, and crude effects then this is a film for you. If you want quality, well you will not find it here! One last comment, I would be very curious as to how others feel about the ridiculousness of the acting done by the wizard in this film? It made me almost sick to see such a vain attempt at portraying a part. Almost made me feel sad for who ever played this part. His acting could not have done anything positive for his future in film. Just my opinion though!

SINBAD: THE FIFTH VOYAGE is a cheap retelling of the famous sailor that comes across as a tribute to the effects-filled Ray Harryhausen movies of old. Indeed, the various foes that Sinbad and his crew end up fighting seem to have been animated via good old-fashioned stop motion, just like in the old days, with the addition of some CGI to smooth the edges. It certainly makes for a lot of fun and brings back some of the glory days of the likes of THE 7TH VOYAGE OF SINBAD and JASON AND THE ARGONAUTS.Unfortunately, the rest of the film is very bad and little above the level of a homemade amateur flick like SAMURAI COP 2: DEADLY VENGEANCE. The whole thing plays out on a green screen with some terrible CGI effects and even worse acting. I didn't mind the lead actor Shahin Sean Soliman, who also wrote and directed, as he's unusually for this type of film an actor of genuinely Persian decent, but the rest is pretty much a waste of time.

If you are a Sinbad fan don't buy or watch this movie. I have been a Sinbad fan for over 50 years and have seen many Sinbad movies, but this one shouldn't even have the name on it. In fact they don't even pronounce it correctly...it sounds like "sandbag" in the movie. After watching it I was amazed that Patrick Stewart had anything to do with it. The special effects were a joke. You'd think it was made in the 40s or 50s instead of just last year. Even the blooper reel wasn't funny. I also should have had a hint about it when I didn't recognize any of the actors. I like to see new ones and I hope some of them get a second chance with a better script. The director should go back to playing terrorists or something like that. Again, don't waste your time or money, even if you have a Sinbad movie collection like I do. It won't be a part of it.

I ignored this film when it first came out in February at theaters. I Read some mixed reviews. There were just too many cool films to see this year. Friends who saw it told me it was cute. Despite it's pretty sincerer cast and attempt to cash in on the mythic quest themes of the old Sinbad movies, it rapidly sunk from sight. But just before it went out of theaters, I decided to check it out, looking for a film appropriate for my 10 year old son. The critics are right. The F/X are clunky, but thats what this film is all about. Don't you people get it? Its fun times with an old friend... Sinbad!! Shahin Sean Solimon was a nice look for Sinbad, he is actually the first one to look the part correctly. ...IT ALL WORKS! The sets? perfectly capture the feelings of a retro Sinbad. There isn't a drop of contemporary thought or commercialism into irony & cynicism. It is a simple GOOD vs EVIL movie, lovingly given to us by the traditional effects made popular by Harryhausen. whats not to love?Form your own opinion, but me as a single mom?? Loved it, and so did little Joey!
