Well Deserved Praise
Plot so thin, it passes unnoticed.
While it doesn't offer any answers, it both thrills and makes you think.
View MoreThe storyline feels a little thin and moth-eaten in parts but this sequel is plenty of fun.
View MoreThis condensed re-release version of the Sissi trilogy, included in the Blu-ray Sissy collection, is very poorly transferred in this recent Blu-ray version as a bonus DVD. Unless you can't stand to hear the German language and/or read English subtitles, you should stay away from this film. The trilogy in this collection is beautifully transferred in German with English subtitles. You can watch the three films in the original aspect ratio of 1.37:1 or the matted one of 1.78: 1 which removes a small portion on the top and bottom of the frame. The audio has been enhanced to Dolby digital 5.1.The Sissy movies are a romanticized biography of the empress and a little "schmalzy" but still fun to watch. In any case Romy Schneider was at her most beautiful.
View MoreLike the previous review posted here, the person wrote, "It always made me cry and I remember it as being wonderful. In fact, I have not seen it in years but when I think of it, it's always "the most beautiful love story I ever saw". I agree with him 1000%. This is pageantry at its best. Like the review entered here, I too saw this when I was 21 years old and I was working part time on a farm in North Sydney Forkes, Nova Scotia in the spring-summer of 1963. The movie played in the small town theater in North Sydney Forkes. The only theater there and at a time in history when a feature length film would play for one to two months at a time. When I was 16 in Chicago, I was an usher at the Chicago Theater. a year after I saw this film, I again worked in the offices of the company that owned the Chicago Theater. If you are a romantic person and you love to be in love, then this film is for you and shared with your loved ones I believe that Forever My Love is the true ultimate Love Story.I fell in love with Romy Schneider after seeing this love story. The colors were vibrant, the costumes were beautiful and the characters portrayed in this film seem surreal and every scene touches one's soul and the scenery just captivates your heart. Plus it was filmed in Austria which made the story more believable. This film also introduced me to Karlheinz Bohm. Later he became Karl Bohm and I remembered him in The Cinerama film "The Wonderful World of the Brothers Grimm" and also in 1962, Karl appeared in the Glenn Ford Classic film, "The Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse." The Brothers Grimm film I saw at the McVicker's Theater in Chicago. Until today, I was not aware of the Trilogy. I only remembered that it was a long film when I saw it in Nova Scotia in 1963.I now will have to view the three Sissi trilogy films as I am a fan of movies, having seen over 12,000 films in my 76 years, and I have a personal video-VHS-DVD-Blu Ray-and 146 3D film collection with over 2300 movies at my home. I highly recommend this love story to everyone who is young at heart, whether one is young or old, it will touch you deeply and you will be thankful that you felt the love in this film..
View MoreJust like DJBS1252, I remember seeing this film in the movies in the early 60's, as a young teenager. I have no idea why a young male teenager such as I was at the time would have come to see this foreign produced, love story in the first place, much less enjoyed it. Nevertheless, I did find it enjoyable, and over the years and years, I somehow always remembered it fondly, despite its obvious flaws. Romy Schneider was adorable and the acting by the two main characters was first-rate. It was shown on Turner Classics on 10/19/17, so perhaps it will appear again. However, years have not been so kind the quality of this film, and I hope there exist better quality prints somewhere. The colors and scenery and wardrobes are vibrant. Too bad there was no hi-def!
