Ben Cooper and his family are struggling to get a grip on household chores, school and work. So when Ben sees that a Smart House is being given away, he enters the competition as often as he can, until they eventually win the house (named Pat). The joyful confection is coated in a sparkly gloss, bright enough to gleam from the darkest, most cynical corners.

Although I seem to have had higher expectations than I thought, the movie is super entertaining.

Not sure how, but this is easily one of the best movies all summer. Multiple levels of funny, never takes itself seriously, super colorful, and creative.

I can remember way back when I still in 6th grade when this movie came out. I watched Disney all the time at this age and my best friend did too. I can remember how unbelievably excited we were to watch this movie after Disney had been doing their usual hype over it's new movies.Like other reviews have stated, this movie starts out really fun and interesting, and then takes a boring turn at the end. But it's honestly only because this house starts out so amazing and it really holds your interest to see all the cool new things the house can do. Some things you could picture actually happening, such as the huge screens on the walls. Most things though are completely impossible. I remember even back then, the scene where the floor sucks in all the debris from the party through the carpets made me roll my 6th grade eyes. However, you have to keep in mind that it's just supposed to be a fun little Disney Original Movie and you let the impossibilities of it all pass. Cause honestly, who doesn't wish their floor could clean itself? Or that you could just make a food select off a touch screen and have it magically pop out of your counter? I especially liked how the house picked out the little girl's outfit in the morning. The only real thing that really bugged me about this movie, and I don't even know why it bugs me so much, is how the kids got busted for their party. That Gwen girl tossed her sweater over a house plant and suddenly its completely obvious that they threw a party? Couldn't the little girl just play it off that it was her sweater? I dunno, it just always bugged me. But then it is Disney, and Disney can be incredibly ridiculous sometimes.I would rate this a 6 out of 10 because the movie really is quite cheesy but still enjoyable to watch. Good for kids and preteens. Though I would not recommend it to those that would put too much thought into it, like I tend to do. It really is just meant to be watched and enjoyed.

One of the more clever Disney television movies is definitely Smart House. This involves a family winning a contest to live as guinea pigs in a futuristic house that is completely computer controlled. But like HAL in 2001 A Space Odyssey or Colossus, The Forbin Project the super artificial brain starts to take over everything.Kevin Kilner and his son Ryan Merriman and daughter Angie Volding are the Cooper family and they win moving into a house that is completely computer controlled. It cleans up after itself, cooks meals, makes beds, etc. All with the cheery voice of that ultimate mother figure, Katey Sagal. It's even got a name like HAL, PAT in this case. It even helps Kilner organize his work so he can stay at home most of the time. Kilner has other needs however that Pat can't supply and that his kids can't understand.Especially Merriman who misses his mother and is jealous of computer woman Jessica Steen who runs PAT's support systems and who Kilner starts showing an interest in. Merriman downloads some old family television shows to give PAT an idea of what the ideal mother is like. It's a lot of laughs and then gets a bit frightening when Sagal materializes as a holograph and shuts the place down. Several centuries later all the kinks got worked out and the Starship Enterprise certainly didn't need a mother figure supervising the crew's every needs. Smart House was a clever idea for a family film, nicely packaged by the folks at The Magic Kingdom.

I just loved this movie! It was so interesting. I was bored one day, and I just turned the TV on to Disney Channel, and Smart House was on. I watched it, and the more I got into it, the more interesting it was. I especially liked the part when PAT became a human. My sister started to watch towards the end, and when she saw PAT become a human, she said that she looked very familiar. After the movie ended, I went online to find out who played PAT, and was surprised to find it was played by Katey Sagel, who I already knew played Cate Hennessy on 8 Simple Rules. I also found out that LaVar Burton directed this film. I already knew about him from what he's most famous for, Reading Rainbow. I always loved that show. Smart House is such a great movie, and I'm not just saying that because I'm in love with Disney Channel. I would love it even if some unknown person made it with $500 just for the heck of it. This movie is definitely satisfying!
