Who payed the critics
It’s fine. It's literally the definition of a fine movie. You’ve seen it before, you know every beat and outcome before the characters even do. Only question is how much escapism you’re looking for.
View MoreThis film is so real. It treats its characters with so much care and sensitivity.

View MoreStorySoorma is the story based on the life of the former Indian Hockey team captain. He met with the accident after his first International match. He was the highest goal scorer in that tournament & he was the fastest drag flicker in the world so media has given him a name " Flicker Singh". This s the story of his come back after the accident that he met with & became the Indian team captain. He has won the Arjuna Award in 2010.Screenplay & DirectionScreenplay was given by Suyash Trivedi, Shaad Ali & Shiva Ananth. In this type of biopic movie screenplay plays very important role, if it is best your biopic will be better. In the field of screenplay this movie gets the clapping for it. Although dialogues are not that much impactful, it creates magic that it needed. After "Saathiya" this film comes on the second place in the field of direction. In between no movie of Shaad Ali's creates the record on the box office as well as not critically acclaimed. Direction is not much impactful because direct the biopic is very tough job & he has taken the risk, he success in it a little-bit.Cinematography & EditingCinematography not played much part in this film but it is so so. The toughest part in the movie based on real life story is editing & Farooq Hundekar has done the fantastic job story creates the aura around you & it does not slip anywhere. You will find the continuation in it.ActingAll the actors has done their part very heartily but the main character that is played by actor-singer Diljit Dosanj & he has done magnificent job in the role of Sandeep Singh. Bikramjit Singh the elder brother's of Sandeep Singh played by Angad Bedi. Chemistry between these two guys is awesome. Chemistry between Seema Kaushal who has played Diljit's mother's character & Diljit him self is also impactful. Tapsee Pannu has played the role of Harpreet Kaur who is also an Indian Hockey player. She has done her part good but her role has not portrayed very well. Satish Kaushik has played her role very sincerely.MusicMusic of the Shankar Ehsaan Loy is soulful two songs has left the impression on the mind. One is soorma title song & other is ishq di baajiyaan. Lyrics of gulzaar is also meaningful. Background score is also good. Theme of the song "Ishq Di Baajiyan" plays in whole movie in background & it sounds very well.Overall VerdictIf you are a Diljit Dosanj fan this movie is must for you.Overall impression of the movie is not as good as other biopic like Bhaag milkha bhaag but it is one time watch also for the inspiration to the nation & the courage of the sport person.
View MoreThis I think is the best bollywood movie of 2018 and one of the best biopics made till date. All the actors give powerful performances and especially vijay raaz. Perfect blend of comedy, emotion and drama. Must watch if you like to watch good movies.
View MoreIf there is one thing I learned from Soorma is to focus on the work you are doing. Do it for the pleasure it offers in itself and not as a means to achieve something else. When I saw the trailer for Soorma, I honestly thought that it is another Bhaag Milkha Bhaag. Turns out it is like that and some more. The rags to riches story of Soorma is a set pattern. You show a few scenes of before, a turning point and then 6 months to a year of training montage and then the sportsperson performing his or her best on a stage that matters. Everyone is happy. By no means, I am disrespectful of the sportspersons, but the pattern is definitely old. Soorma is all that and some more.Soorma, being based on a true story, is massively inspirational. It has moments that restore faith in mankind and also moments which make you question about the state of sports other than cricket. It is hard to say how it is different without giving spoilers. It reminded me of Kung Fu Panda and the way Shifu trains Po. His training is shaped through his love of food and here, Soorma's training shapes through the love of his life. Towards the end both realize that their determination is in the act itself and not in the triggers that resulted in them. Most such movies inspire people to start playing sports or take a gym membership. Soorma felt different because I didn't feel inspired to follow his tracks. I was inspired to excel at the job I like to do, whichever that is. Most of the times we end up doing things to achieve something else. An IT engineer goes to office not to excel at the code, but to earn money. If Soorma helps us in changing that perception a little and people start focusing on the act they do more than the illusory goals, I would call the movie a success.Coming to the other aspects of the film. The acting by Diljit Dosanjh is amazing as Sandeep, and Tapsee is very convincing as his love interest Harpreet. Industry veterans like Vijay Raaz need no validation. The playback score is engaging but all the songs fall flat. None of the songs could connect with me and they get extremely tiring. This is definitely not some work that can go on Shankar Ehsaan Loy's resume. If you like sports movies or inspirational movies, this is definitely worth a watch.
