Tells a fascinating and unsettling true story, and does so well, without pretending to have all the answers.

It is neither dumb nor smart enough to be fun, and spends way too much time with its boring human characters.

This movie feels like it was made purely to piss off people who want good shows

An old-fashioned movie made with new-fashioned finesse.

Utterly gray, the show's 4 policemen uses illegal methods to take down main criminal (Sammo Hung) when legal methods fail. In comes the new inspector (Donnie Yen) that is to take over retiring inspector's (Simon Yam) position. Infamous for causing brain damage to an arms dealer in a single punch, he is initially excluded from the plans of the 4. When the policemen kill a criminal in an attempt to remove witnesses to complete a frame up of Hung, Yen arrives too late to stop them.Yam challenges Yen's moral high ground by bringing up his punching incident but we see later that Yen has been regretting his actions in not holding back his punch and trying to repay his "debt". 3 of the 4 policemen have other issues in their lives that is given a short amount of film time and when most of them get an ending, you will have to decide. Did they deserve it? The ending has a twist and is one that is based on karmic payback. You win the battle but you lose war.Note: Also i do not get why people in their reviews keep saying the woman could not have a baby. She miscarried twice, which means a greater chance of miscarrying but not a 100% chance

Oh!..... I think this is one of the best action movies ever made. Donnie Yen at his very best. Whether its the knife bout or the kicks and punches, he simply rules. After this movie, I can say he is my favorite Asian martial artist. The movie is very serious and somewhat dark. Not only the bad guys, but the cops are also involved in shady business. But one just cannot withstand the other. Superb characters, top notch direction and excellent choreography wraps up the show.Just go watch it. You won't be disappointed. This is a great action movie.Highly recommended. 9 out of 10.

Detective Chan (Simon Yam) is on the verge of bringing crime boss Wong Po (Sammo Hung) down, however Po kills the witness allowing him to be free once more...Chan, a broken man is willing to do anything in bringing Po to justice, even going as far as making up evidence. But, a new detective Inspector Ma Kwun (Donnie Yen) is suspicious of Chan's uncompromising tactics...But can Kwun save Chan from the vicious Po?First of all this film is not scene after scene of kung-fu brilliance, it is deeper then that. It is a story about a man on the edge who will do anything to get the result he wants, it's about good, evil and the place in-between. How far can you go into the Gray zone without turning evil? Simon Yam gives a fine performance as the detective trying to bring Po down, his performance is very contained and yet there is something heartbreaking about his final pursuit, Sammo is just frightening as the Triad boss, who will do anything to stay out of prison...and then there is a man known as Donnie Yen... Donnie Yen can deliver good solid performances along with Simon Yam..But his strength is his martial arts and dazzles the audience as he incorporates MMA with Kung-Fu flawlessly. (Something he would later perfect in Flashpoint) Though there are only a few limited fight scenes, the build up towards it does wonders as the fight scene is justified and appears to be very tense. Once more Donnie Yen and Sammo Hung join forces and offer a brilliant piece of cinema..May they continue to bring us amazing spectacles.

I read the reviews on IMDb, one superlative after another was used to describe how good this movie was. After some good movies like Kung Fu Hustle, Kung Pow and Shaolin Soccer I was really in the mood for another great martial art movie. Well, let me tell you the true story. The script of the movie is what we call very thin, sometimes stupid and let's not forget the stupid in between scenes or did I used the word stupid already? The latter could be bearable if the movie wasn't so incredibly boring, The action scenes, some described as the best of the last decade are not bad, but to call them good? They reminded me of 80's martial art movies fighting scenes with one big exception, in the 80's the scenes were good. Save your money and watch Kung Fu Hustle, Kung Pow or Shaolin Soccer instead.
