Very well executed

The performances transcend the film's tropes, grounding it in characters that feel more complete than this subgenre often produces.

Fun premise, good actors, bad writing. This film seemed to have potential at the beginning but it quickly devolves into a trite action film. Ultimately it's very boring.

The tone of this movie is interesting -- the stakes are both dramatic and high, but it's balanced with a lot of fun, tongue and cheek dialogue.

I almost didn't watch this movie because the description didn't sound very interesting, but it is utterly amazing for such a seemingly simple film. I am more than a little bit surprised that it apparently wasn't nominated for any Oscars. It was honored at over a dozen film festivals, though. Despite being about a very average and lonely man doing a largely thankless job, it subtly draws you in -- first with engaging vignettes of the man's life and then with the central detective-like quest he tasks himself with -- and leads you towards a predictable finish and then hits you with a moving twist and an even more perfect ending than what you were expecting. Be patient and you will be rewarded.

This is one of the most impressive films I have seen. Not only in the last year but in the last 10 years. Eddie Marson brings a quiet resolve to a role he was born to play. A supporting cast that perfectly fits in with the pace and mood of the film. The premise is unpromising. A civil servant in a dead end job doing a job not appreciated by most. Seen as an anachronism in a modern world he does his job with pen and paper in a computer age. He shows more compassion to the dead than they received in real life. He documents and adds a small meaning to lives otherwise forgotten in a city full of people where people slip through the maelstrom of the frantic world and end up alone. At the end of the film I sat and stared at the blank screen thinking about what I had just seen. The last time I had felt as moved by a film was nearly 10 years ago. I certainly did not expect it to happen last night.

In a shifting world, where everything goes fast, and we try to get on with our busy busy lives, comes this quiet, haunting and basic film which very bluntly give us a reminder of what really matters; friendship and that somebody care for us, even when we are gone. The film deals with death, but the message is really to stop and re-think our priority's, and take care of those around us. Nobody should die alone. I remember reading a review of this film in a Norwegian paper, it was a good review, except the journalist did not like the ending. I disagree - death is something we have to deal with and this film points out the reason why. Remarkebly strong performances of everyone involved. One of the best British films that are made in recent times.

I loved the humanity the main character brought to the screen. I know so few people like that in real life. Yet he lacked any personal life outside of his work. Literally nothing. Hard to fathom. Just when I thought the story would become predictable, ya got punch in the gut and gasped. The potential romance development seem also a stretch. I would have like to see more development of their relationship where she became attracted to his compassionate sensitivity and humanity.Such as painful contrast at the end. It was depressing. I loved it.Still Life to me meant how non dimensional our lives are without connections to others.
