How sad is this?

Yash Wade

Close shines in drama with strong language, adult themes.

There is, somehow, an interesting story here, as well as some good acting. There are also some good scenes

I can't believe "The Asylum" is still in business. Evidently they make several of these horrible movies per year and spend about $100,000 per movie and boy can you tell it!!! Every actor or actress that is featured in one of their movies is either a washed up has been OR is on the verge out of the movie limelight; Tera Reid, Ian Ziering, Monica Keena just to name very few. If any actor or actress wants to commit Hollywood suicide, do a movie made by "The Asylum". I can't believe critics gave high ratings for Sharknado and Sharknado 2. There aren't enough sharks on the planet for either one of those movies to be anywhere near realistic!!!! I mean......I'm flying 41,000 feet in the air in a 747, and I look out the window and I see a couple of sharks floundering around on the aircrafts wing??? Even if a movie is cheesy it still has to have some believability to it and 99.9% of "The Asylum" movies are just plain idiotic, unrealistic and dumb. I guarantee CGI effects and the story lines were done by second graders on an Apple LisaBottom line; if you start to watch a movie and the beginning credits say "The Asylum" either turn it off or go watch grass grow because either choice will be more entertaining!!! "The Asylum" doesn't care anything about movie making as an art form, they just want to make as much random garbage flicks as possible and hopes the unsuspecting public will pay a decent amount of cash to watch them.

If you have come to expect Asylum films to be anything other then they are, you will be disappointed. You HAVE to know that the producers, actors, crew, and even the caterer (if they could afford one) knew exactly what they were producing. There is no possible way the could have thought there were making and Oscar worthy film. At least that is what I hope! It is so unbelievably bad it is worth a watch. We have a tradition of bad movie night and we usually cannot make it through a whole movie without turning it off. This one we just couldn't. It held us to our seats the whole time. Great family fun to point out all the oh so obvious errors, cheesy special affects and making sure to keep track on how many times they say Super Cyclone or the varying time frame the storm is gonna hit somewhere (doesnt mater where). I wish all super storms were so sunny and with such nice weather. I love running through rain and never getting wet, or flaming hail and never getting hit (yes! FLAMING hail!). It is my ultimate dream to be in a helicopter, a boat, and a car that all get swept up into a vortex and nothing happens but being placed down gently.Again, you have to believe that all those involved knew exactly what they were doing. Then you can look at what this film is....and I still don't know myself.

Dear Asylum, How dare you introduce garbage like this to my television set. Truly your movies should be stamped with a large warning, "Careful! We really, really suck!" Honestly, does anyone on your staff know what they're doing? Is your mission statement nothing more than to pump out atrocity after atrocity as cheaply as possible? Now we know who picks up Hollywood's reject pile. Yeah, yeah, we know...at least you're making movies. What are we doing? Well, we're not embarrassing ourselves like you are, that's for sure. And we're also not dragging the movie industry into the toilet while we're at it. Good one, Asylum...flush another one down the pipes.

The blurb from DirecTV about this movie mentions that 2 of the characters are trying to stop a superstorm from devastating the entire EASTERN (my emphasis) seaboard. Only problem with this blurb is that, as you find out within the first 5-10 minutes of the movie, the storm is set to hit California which is about 3,000 miles from the EASTERN seaboard because it is actually on the WESTERN seaboard. As is typical for fare from The Asylum, bad overacting, bad special effects, bad everything is the norm but that is what makes them enjoyable for me because I get to laugh during the majority of the "disaster". Do not get me wrong, I also enjoy mainstream disaster movies such as Armaggedon, 2012, Meteor, Asteroid, Twister, Deep Impact etc but I enjoy the mainstream ones because they make me have appropriate emotions for there being a disaster occurring. In a nutshell, if you have enjoyed other The Asylum movies, then you will enjoy this one but if you are looking for it to be on a par of a movie like Armaggedon, then look elsewhere.
