Best movie ever!

This is ultimately a movie about the very bad things that can happen when we don't address our unease, when we just try to brush it off, whether that's to fit in or to preserve our self-image.

If I saw this stop-motion film today, I probably wouldn't be all that impressed--especially since director Co Hoedeman's later works are so much better (such as the adorable and high quality Ludovic films). However, for 1972, it's a very nice film that compares nicely to the works of other stop-motion artists of the time, such as Jan Svankmajer. The film was made using children's blocks. However, a few of the blocks were hand-colored in order to make little boy and girl blocks. As they appeared to move, blocks were seamlessly replaced--making the legs appear to move up and down. As for the story, there's a dragon and the children are afraid. Not an especially deep story and I must admit it's not the type of film I like. However, every artist needs to start somewhere and this led to many wonderful later products. Plus, if you like Hoedman's work, it's interesting to see where it all started.
