hyped garbage
Far from Perfect, Far from Terrible
The film makes a home in your brain and the only cure is to see it again.
View MoreIt’s fine. It's literally the definition of a fine movie. You’ve seen it before, you know every beat and outcome before the characters even do. Only question is how much escapism you’re looking for.
View MoreI guess with a bigger budget Thale could have been better but unfortunately at this moment it's just not good enough to be remembered. And it's also not a horror movie. I don't know why they listed it in that category. That was the reason I started to watch Thale. I wanted a horror movie but I got a fantasy movie instead. Nothing wrong with that genre, but this Nordic tale is just too slow and lacks a bigger budget. The CGI scenes are not great and could have been much better if you put some more work in it. The cast isn't bad, it's just the story that is a bit slow. I caught myself several times trying to stay awake and that would not have happened if the story was better, with a bit more action. I had higher hopes for this Norwegian movie and so I'm left disappointed.
View MoreI really didn't like this movie. Perhaps because I am unfamiliar with the myth it is based upon, perhaps because my Latin culture is so different from that from the Nordics. The acting seemed flat to me; the responses to climatic moments are emotionless and stiff. Both the male actors gave dull performances. On the other hand, the FX are quite good for a shoestring budget and the photography and lighting are quite well done. The movie starts with an interesting gory tone. And it has some classic elements of suspense, horror and fiction movies. But it sadly never reaches neither a suspense nor a scary climax. Yes, there is a tale about a mythical creature, but her purpose in the plot is nowhere to be seen. I felt no bond to any character in the film. They seemed to be just a couple of actors reciting lines which most of the times were cut short before actually saying something. The plot made little sense to me.Go smell a flower instead, take a walk. Spend your time on something else; don't waste your time on this. Unless you are Norwegian; perhaps then this will click for you.
View MoreJust got finished watching the low budget Norwegian film "Thale". I saw it had a 5.5 here on IMDb, but all the written user reviews were raving for it. It's a bit like Troll Hunter in a way, in that it's based on some folk tales, and shot very well for how low budget it is. Rather classy overall, it moves a little slow, and yeah, predictable. But miles better as a fairy tale movie than Snow White and the Huntsman, and more suitable for kids. Some jumps, few scares, but a really restrained hand directing it. She's nude, but tastefully done with no nipples, and the lead actress really sells the part for having literally no dialogue. Really enjoyable if a little slow, as a bedtime story should be.
View MoreWho'd imagine there are so many word-plays with this? I actually could Thale. Seriously though and maybe in the vain of some of the strange humor that can be found in this: The story is more of a myth or something you could imagine being told as good night story (or rather at a campfire come to think of it).It starts of normal and easy enough but veers into strange territory pretty fast. Which of course has to do with the short running time. It's a good thing the movie is not really long, trying to stretch a really good idea. There are some flaws after the initial realization of what's happening, but the overall mood of the film is consistent and it's surely not something you have witnessed in many movies. Kudos to the filmmakers.
