Dominic works round the clock: nights making biscotti for his family's bakery in a working-class Italian neighborhood in Pittsburgh, then days downtown where he's a specialist in firing people at a company that negotiates mergers. He's thrown for a loop with he learns that Bella, an elderly neighbor who's his family's closest friend, has but a few months to live. All her life, she's saved money in coffee cans for her daughter, Lucca's, wedding, but Lucca is off in foreign lands, initially as a Peace Corps volunteer, and doesn't need a man. Dominic vows to bring Lucca home and convince her to marry him to fulfill Bella's most fervent wish. What will Lucca say?

The performances transcend the film's tropes, grounding it in characters that feel more complete than this subgenre often produces.

The plot isn't so bad, but the pace of storytelling is too slow which makes people bored. Certain moments are so obvious and unnecessary for the main plot. I would've fast-forwarded those moments if it was an online streaming. The ending looks like implying a sequel, not sure if this movie will get one

The thing I enjoyed most about the film is the fact that it doesn't shy away from being a super-sized-cliche;

Scott Baio is excellent in this movie as are all the cast members. I was blown away by how real the acting was and felt like a part of the family. It made me laugh and cry. I had to watch it twice before returning the rental. I liked it much more than My Big Fat Greek Wedding which it is compared to in the promos. The story centers around three brothers who run an Italian pastry shop leased from an older Italian couple who live above the shop. The older couple have become surrogate parents for the three brothers and their love for one another is a testament to lasting marriage. Baio's character makes a big personal sacrifice to fulfill a wish for his surrogate mother. You will love the authenticity of this film.

This movie was not that good. The high user rating and the comments make you think that this movie would be extremely good and it didn't even rate in the average category. After reading through the comments I am guessing that many reviewers knew the people who made this movie and wanted to give it a favorable review. Although I enjoyed Scott Baio and Kristin Minter's characters, everything else in the movie made this a movie I wish I hadn't taken the time to watch. The parents definitely overacted just about every one of their lines and the retarded brother's performance bordered on the insulting many times. Scott Baio's character's work life was not realistic (when exactly was he working so hard at his other job that he warranted a promotion to Senior VP). The thing is, I enjoy movies with concepts similar to this one - unrealistic, but nevertheless romantic and predictable story lines- the problem is that this movie was just poorly executed. It was suggested that you have to enjoy or appreciate ethnic movies to enjoy this one, well I love movies involving ethnicity but showing Italian culture in the form of extremely bad accents, overacted but nonetheless authentic family interactions, and good food doesn't save this movie.Save your time and your money and pass on this movie, you'll only be disappointed.

I had hoped this would be a light romantic film and the critic's reviews were certainly encouraging. Still it seemed like it might be a made for television movie, simple and sweet but nothing extraordinary. It was wonderfully surprising though. I thought the scheme to marry to make the mother happy would be unbelievable but they pulled it off. It actually had a very realistic touch to the writing. And the direction was superb, very subtle, again keeping the character's realistic. All of the cast were terrific but Scott Baio, Kristen Minter and Rosemary Prinz were incredible. Definitely a sleeper, very heartwarming and incredibly well done! One of the greatest unknown romantic gem's you'll ever find.

A real surprise for me. It was my girlfriend's night to choose the movie and, yes, I groaned when I saw the DVD cover.. "Scott Baio? Are you kidding?" but I really enjoyed it, even though I never figured out how the first-time-director gypsy chick as fate metaphor ever got past the producer or distributor. Baio, Kristin Minter and Rosemary Prinz were solid and the production values were impressive for an independent film. It didn't surprise me to learn later that the film (and Baio) won prizes at six or eight film festivals.And, honestly, even though some of the stereotyped accents and behavior bugged me, the movie left films like "Big Fat..." in the dust, especially when I figured out that the catering budget on Greek Wedding was probably bigger than the whole budget for this one.So, in spite of myself, I actually watched it more than once. I recommend it if you like gentle comedy, food, big loud parties and stories about people that fall in love in spite of themselves. Even with the gypsy.
