The movie's neither hopeful in contrived ways, nor hopeless in different contrived ways. Somehow it manages to be wonderful

Brides are dying, during wedding ceremonies; under mysterious circumstances. Stranger still, the bodies are being stolen. One reporter, finds a clue: a rare flower; used as a corsage, that is a species of poisonous plant; has been given to each victim, by an unknown benefactor.Bela Lugosi, plays one of his most interesting roles yet; as a doctor, that is using the blood of brides; to restore the beauty of his betrothed. The Corpse Vanishes, is a really good movie. It may not feel like an actual horror film, but the talent gathered; plays the movie well. The acting ability of the talent gathered, should have been better recognized. The Corpse Vanishes, will appeal to Bela Lugosi fans; and to fans of classical horror.

I really enjoyed this one,, not a classic by any stretch but way better than the amazing mr. x . this one had me laughing all the way,, a news reporter from the society page is assigned the task of figuring out why and who keeps killing virgin young brides, then proceeds to steal the corpse away to an unknown location for as yet unknown purpose. Bela Lugosi does his usual good acting in this acting his usual creepy self. their are many interesting characters in here and all with very interesting parts throughout the movie. it was full of laughs and very enjoyable to watch throughout. without getting into why the corpses are taken away, and to what they are used for I will have to let you watch this and see what you all think about it, I personally loved this movie.

This is a fairly routine formula film for Horror.Young women are killed so a mad scientist can take a serum from their bodies to keep his wife young and beautiful. We really don't mind that this "formula" doesn't make sense, or that it has to be contrived to be young pretty women. Well, we do mind, but we live with that to an extent. The extent does go pretty far here. Four women are killed at the altar, with their bodies hijacked, and while I am one of those who do believe who heartedly in bungling incompetent detectives at high levels, this is beyond far fetched. There are just a few too many clichés in this, with misshapen freaks and other standards of Horror. The contrived part gets pretty high.On the bright side, the heroine is an absolute knock out, more gorgeous than about any actress you'll see in a movie made today, and she has a breath of fresh air about her, and seems bright. And you don't have to fast forward a lot. Some, but not as much as you may think. Fortunately, it isn't as drawn out as some of these. It's drawn out, yes, and probably would be best at a half hour instead of an hour, but it doesn't bore you to tears the way many Horror movies do, even today. And I often forget most movies then, as today, were made for theatre viewing. I would watch movies in the late sixties and seventies, but usually on the tube, and I do forget that those movies were meant for big screens. Still, that's no excuse for them to not be artistic on the tube. Not much here, but nothing to make you depressed either.

This low-budget cheapy is from the days when Bela was pretty hard up for roles, but it has a certain charm. The basic plot is that Lugosi is a mad scientist with an aging wife whose beauty he is determined to preserve forever. Apparently, the way to do this is by extracting some chemical from young women that makes them beautiful. The height of discretion, Bela decides to kidnap brides at the altar – because it's easy to find them, I guess, when they are the center of attention and surrounded by people. His clever plan is challenged by a young go-getting female reporter who seems just as interested in using her job to secure a doctor for a husband as in solving the case, her comedy-relief photographer buddy, and the inevitable bland love interest. Luckily, Lugosi has a dysfunctional degenerate white trash family to help him out, and he hires street people to distract the police. Great movie making ,this is not, but it is good for some fun.
