Through painfully honest and emotional moments, the movie becomes irresistibly relatable

It's a movie as timely as it is provocative and amazingly, for much of its running time, it is weirdly funny.

The film never slows down or bores, plunging from one harrowing sequence to the next.

It's simply great fun, a winsome film and an occasionally over-the-top luxury fantasy that never flags.

I remember seeing this movie when it first came out in 2004. As I am firmly in the climate change is happening camp the scenario appealed. The movie from a science perspective - well not that strong. But then again I have never seen a Hollywood blockbuster that is very strong on real science. The climate scenario is quite fun to watch and the human interaction between science and policy too does ring bell.A tanker that comes past and stops on meeting a bus.Totally hilarious and stuff but really when you have science background you just have to go to these movies and laugh and see the fun side of it. Given all the science fiction movies with fire in space this is nothing! Wel apart from funny that isBut really the thing that made my cry with laughter this time was people forth US feeing to Mexico due to the weather and being denied entry Borders and refugee camps opened up after all debts were solved. The funny part was people trying to cross the Rio Grande and thinking of the current Trump administration trying to build a wall! Can you just imagine Mexico using that wall to keep Americans out? Seriously funny part for me. The rest of the movie of course is a feel good movie with a romantic story (or 2) and getting through it all. Yet underneath it all there is a serious message on climate change which I do like

Not only does 2004 disaster film The Day After Tomorrow feature big names such as Jake Gyllenhall and Emmy Rossum, but dramatic scenes of hail, tornadoes, and tsunamis. And as entertaining as all of this may be, there are many aspects of the film that are not based in scientific fact at all. For example, the Ideal Gas law is completely ignored in the scene where it is argued that the frigid air descending on the people of Earth and freezing everything in its path was "moving too fast" to heat as it made its descent. This is not plausible, because the speed of the air would never make a difference in the temperature of the air, only pressure would. In real life, the air would warm as it descended. The movie also got several aspects of the storm wrong. For instance, the movie depicts several thunder storms merging together to create one huge blizzard with an eye at the center. This would be considered a hurricane, but hurricanes can only form over warm ocean water. A hurricane would also never be able to create a blizzard, as the temperature would never be able to drop low enough. The storm is also shown rotating both clockwise and counterclockwise in different scenes. However, due to the Coriolis effect all large storms in the Northern Hemisphere rotate counter-clockwise. The many improbable scenes add up to create a story that may be fun to watch, but it is truly science fiction.

The difference is simple : the first tells apocalypse through President, agencies, military so with boring characters that we don't give a S..t about while the second tells the same story trough an ordinary family. Well, i would say that this one begins like the first and finishes like the second. More accurately, i watched everything at the start but after 30 minutes of this dreadful politician and experts talks, i skip all the institutional, governmental scenes and the movie had more punch then, at least during the coming of the storm in NYC and what happens to Emmy and friends inside the library. Indeed the plot is totally unbelievable (twister, tornadoes, blizzard coming by surprise), the characters are pretty lame (a bum with his dog, a nerd, a ill child, etc..). In fact, sometimes i had the feeling to watch ID4 again, aliens switched for climate. Anyway the mission of Quaid to save his son is just a white cold trip with incoherence (coming from Miss Liberty ?). Except the good acting from Emmy and her boyfriend and some stunning visuals, there is not really much beyond.
