Too much of everything
Just perfect...
good back-story, and good acting
There's a more than satisfactory amount of boom-boom in the movie's trim running time.
View MoreThis is truly an amazing fillm. The concept of recordingmemories and the ability to change alternare universes is not for the intellectually lazy. As a result, many will dismiss this gem of a film. I neither can nor will give away spoilers here, but will encourage those who are seeking a film that is Sci-fi and existentialism, this is it.
View MoreI am a die hard science fiction fan and love it when a movie stretches the limits of imagination and though this movie is not the best science fiction movie that I have watched, it is a very good attempt. If science fiction for you means futuristic gadgets, star ships, aliens and super cool visual effects, this is not a movie for you. However, if you are like me who loves sci-fi movies for their plots, imaginations and creativity then you would find this movie highly nourishing to your grey matter. The Discovery starts off with an interesting idea of scientific proof of after life and how it is leading to an epidemic level suicide rate across the globe. After that the story is about two lead characters - Will and Isla. The threads of their lives intertwine amidst more revelations about after life. The climax of the movie is really mind bending and that's when one realizes that every scene up to the point of climax was a great build up to the mystery of after life especially from the point of view of Will. Of course, there are things that could have been better in the movie for example - the acting by lead actors does leave you wanting for more and the screenplay could also have been much better but in my view a sci-fi movie with average acting and average screenplay is also a must watch as long as it leaves you wondering about the possibilities that science can one day open up and the answers we may find.
View MoreFunny for a movie all about death it made me think of and celebrate life. I don't want to give much away.. at all...but this is one of the best movies I've seen in a long time. I found all of the characters very believable. I especially related to Isla as a broken woman searching for belonging. Amazing the lengths to which grief can make us go. I will think about this movie for a long time to come. I do want to address the idea of the afterlife and while I am a Christian I tend to be very open minded about what exactly is out there. I do think that some people with the same faith as mine may not find this movie as good as I did as the ideas proposed would clash with their belief systems. I will close by saying I loved the love story in this and the ending was perfect.
View MoreFinally got around to watching it. It ultimately plays upon the fractured reality thesis, one i've grown more and more suspicious of as time passes. What if when you die, you merge with yourself elsewhere until there can be only one. The irony being, it's all one. Infinity is not time unending, it is the 1 that exists amongst no other numbers. A singular intelligence that has been fragmented within the illusion of time that entropy causes. Combining these two premises is not easy. But it does yield the possibility, that infinity is merely the process of being (a kind of evolution) and there is much beyond. That's my take. It's a bit of a slow movie, definitely for the thinkers. To say that we are the universe understanding itself, is still valid. This is what i mean by '1' It also supports suicide is sin, simply because.. you'll just repeat the same mistake until you learn what the pain is trying to teach you. Which, really, really, annoys me. I sure as hell don't seek to understand these things through convenient rationality or bias. I don't 'choose to believe'. But logic is a pickle, it needs cheese.Although in this review i have mostly talked about a thought experiment, that is what this movie summons from within. It makes you think and it makes you think very deeply.Definitely not for everyone but maybe one day it will be.
