Really Surprised!

TrueHello

Fun premise, good actors, bad writing. This film seemed to have potential at the beginning but it quickly devolves into a trite action film. Ultimately it's very boring.

Although I seem to have had higher expectations than I thought, the movie is super entertaining.

This disc really lets you experience the beauty that is a Dolls concert. I'm a very big fan, and also planning to participate in the Dirty Business Brigade this year, but I can assure you this is a musical masterpiece. The concert itself is full of all sorts of music and art and color. The bonus features like "A Life in the Day of..." are simply fantastic. They really give you a sense that the band are totally being themselves. Its not a gimmick, not some cheap act. They do this because they love it and they love their fans. If you become a fan by watching this or hearing them on the radio or from a friend, then you'll become a part of something truly beautiful. You can become art. Punk Cabaret is Freedom!

This film is extremely unique as it features the music of the Dresden Dolls live from the Paradise in Boston, 6-5-05 as well a "documentary" on the band and the events of that day.The musical footage is pure eye-candy and it's delightful to watch a concert from different angles, with colors dancing all around the screen. It is a unique to be able to watch a concert like that. The documentary is equally as amazing, for you really get to "go behind the scenes" by seeing Amanda Palmer and Brian Viglione (the Dresden Dolls) preparing for the day, as well as Michael Pope (director) and the Dresden Dolls Dirty Business Brigade (they're all out awesome performers, from all around the world). It is a fantastic and original DVD that can easily change your taste in music and film.

The Dresden Dolls are possibly the best live act of the contemporary rock scene, and this disc proves it. Their power-house originals and creative covers (such as War Pigs by Black Sabbath, which they screw up and start over on the DVD) make them one of my personal favorites. 10 out of 10 for the next best thing to seeing them live, and in case you were wondering, the documentary on the disc "A Life in The Day of...." is worth watching too. It follows The Dolls around the day of the show and is punctuated by humorous moments such as Amanda Palmer dropping a bobby pin in her toilet...priceless. The disc also contains bonus live footage from a festival in Europe, and the music videos for Coin Operated Boy and Girl Anachronism.
