After ratting out his Mafia cohorts, Giovanni Manzoni and his family enter the Witness Protection Program and relocate to a sleepy town in France. Despite the best efforts of their handler to keep them in line, Giovanni (now called Fred Blake), his wife and children can't help but resort to doing things the "family" way. However, their dependence on such old habits places everyone in danger from vengeful mobsters.

Instead, you get a movie that's enjoyable enough, but leaves you feeling like it could have been much, much more.

It's hard to see any effort in the film. There's no comedy to speak of, no real drama and, worst of all.

One of the best movies of the year! Incredible from the beginning to the end.

Story: It's very simple but honestly that is fine.

It's easy to get your hopes up for a mafia movie starring Robert De Niro, but anybody looking for the next 'Godfather' or 'Goodfellas' should probably look elsewhere. 'The Family' is best viewed with an open mind or lowered expectations. This isn't your typical mafia movie - it doesn't intend to be, but 'The Family' is decent for what it is.It does function relatively well as a black comedy. It's not relentlessly funny, but it does have its moments and these seem to come at the right moment. I enjoyed the plot and can't remember seeing anything similar before, it's something completely different to any mafia movie that has come before it. While 'The Family' is nothing special, if you can appreciate it for what it is then there is some enjoyment to be had here.

Greetings from Lithuania."The Family" (2013) is a fun, involving and just a very entertaining action / comedy / crime film. It kinda does not take it self to seriously, and it works. I liked performances in here, especially by Robert De Niro and Michelle Pfeiffer. Pacing of this movie was very good - at running time 1 h 45 min this movie never dragged. There are some references to famous "gangster" movies along the way.Overall, "The Family" is a fun and entertaining movie package. You don't need to take it to seriously as its comedy on its core, and while its not the most original, it as a good movie.

As usual little D is trying to act tough and he still just can't cut it. He just is not convincing as a big bad mobster. The only person he could really punch in the face is a girl. what a woos. Actually his acting is getting worse as he gets older. That's because of his conceit he thinks he is great. He has no ability to act a different character. He is always the same dawdy jerk.

I was shocked to see this movie only has a 6.3 rating overall from those rating it on this site. This movie has absolutely everything you can ask for in a dark comedy. It is very well written and directed, and the actors are top notch. I think that this is one of De Niro's finer roles, and I'm a huge De Niro fan. Michelle Pfeiffer is her usual funny, sexy and engaging self. Tommy Lee Jones doesn't have a huge part in the movie, but when he does appear, he does a great job. IF you like dark comedy, mafia flicks, and some action in your movie, then you will definitely love this one. Everyone that I have recommended this one too has thanked me later.
