Tuberculosis is the deadliest killer in human history, responsible for one in four deaths for almost two centuries. While it shaped medical pursuits, social habits, economic development and public policy, TB and its impact are poorly understood.

Wonderful character development!

FirstWitch

A movie that not only functions as a solid scarefest but a razor-sharp satire.

It’s not bad or unwatchable but despite the amplitude of the spectacle, the end result is underwhelming.

A terrific literary drama and character piece that shows how the process of creating art can be seen differently by those doing it and those looking at it from the outside.

This episode is about the large-scale tuberculosis epidemic that spread across the United States during the 19th and 20th centuries. Particular emphasis of the show is on treatments in lieu of medications and the proliferation of sanatoriums. Additionally, the history of research leading to a definitive cure were discussed in the show.Like most "American Experience" episodes, this one was made by using various folks who knew first-hand about the disease, various photos and film clips as well as narration. A quality episode (as usual) for the series, though I was surprised by the fact that the show kept talking about tuberculosis in regard to how it affected the lungs--but no mention of its spread through the skeletal system. Still, well worth seeing.
