The Worst Film Ever
It is a performances centric movie
Am I Missing Something?
If you like to be scared, if you like to laugh, and if you like to learn a thing or two at the movies, this absolutely cannot be missed.
View MoreIndian music, drops of Bollywood, slices of American dream and crumbs of sexuality. a love story and a funny cast. Jimi Mistry as axis of a crazy movie about nothing but very precise to use old ingredients. result - nice film in childish nuances, puzzle from pieces , smoke, games and clichés. far from great ambitions, it is only a joke about meeting between West and ambiguous Orient. innocent drawing in which hope, East temptations, cultural differences and need of mask to be yourself are colors for escape from daily pressure. fragile charm of Heather Graham , Marisa Tomei in confuse skin and fireworks of artistic India are enough to compose a seductive cake without any taste.
View MoreBritish Indian actor (and unofficial Nicolas Cage lookalike) Jimi Mistry plays an Indian dance teacher who comes to the USA to gain fame and fortune as an actor and, through a series of misunderstandings, happenstances and other improbabilities, becomes a sex adviser guru, spouting half-baked self-help platitudes which are fed to him in all innocence by Heather Graham's highly unlikely porn actress. The suspension of disbelief default level is set quite high with this one, but the likability of the characters helps to make it achievable. There's nothing terribly unusual in the plotting or scripting, but the background and setting generally is fairly original.Jimi Mistry is good, Heather Graham tries hard but comes across as fairly vapid, and Marisa Tomei is excellent (and looks great in her underwear). There are some mock Bollywood musical sequences which are quite good fun, and the whole thing is fairly light and amusing.
View MoreI watched this movie quite a while ago (somehow it seemed to be OK to me back then) and just happened to watch it again on the TV tonight.. Boy!.. Have I changed that much over the past 5 years??I mean it was a nice silly movie going around love, sex and regular Hollywood bull-stuff, that didn't really matter that much.. but, i guess.. only at the first glance. The biggest and the worst idea of this movie is that you can be anybody and do whatever you feel like (without a glimpse of prejudice) and still find happiness.. oh really!??NO WAY! (unfortunately)..The karma (they joke about) won't let one become happy, living the way this movie's characters live. This movie is just not worth watching, if you want to watch something less harmful and sensible check out "Outsourced" - it has the same flavor, but the aftertaste is just so-so different..Cheers!
View MoreThe movie starts as a joke to immigrants- legal or illegal who are attracted to the Promised Land with "American Dreams" but the story gradually turns into revealing the shallow American society and its wrong notions about Indian culture and religion. The most sarcastic scene is when guru dances on the tune of a cheap Hindi song and people follow him. It is really hilarious how the Ramu is a shadowy Guru, while the real Guru is a porno-queen.Jimi Mistry's "Pretty- face, less acting" performance is compensated to a great extent by Heather Graham's superb performance.Dances and songs are appropriately wounded up in the story and does not interrupt its flow. Great Movie, if you are looking to laugh heartily, but if you are looking for some Romance or Indian culture & values this is not for you!
