Bad Acting and worse Bad Screenplay

It is both painfully honest and laugh-out-loud funny at the same time.

The movie's neither hopeful in contrived ways, nor hopeless in different contrived ways. Somehow it manages to be wonderful

If you're interested in the topic at hand, you should just watch it and judge yourself because the reviews have gone very biased by people that didn't even watch it and just hate (or love) the creator. I liked it, it was well written, narrated, and directed and it was about a topic that interests me.

A first for me. Never thought a movie could go from a depressing note... to the next depressing note .... and the next , and the next... and... even end on a depressing note.Go go now. Got to do something to cheer me up. Bye

This movie had potential and starts off strong......then it just falls apart.SPOILERS!Are we really to believe that Mary would suddenly want to disrobe and have sex with George out in the cold with the mentally ill women watching? Are we then to believe she would suddenly hang herself? She was the one with the commitment to getting the women to Iowa and she suddenly kills herself? Why? Because she did the dirty? Really makes no sense at all and things just go downhill from there.Also, you really don't get the feeling that there was a strong bond between Mary and George anyway......this sudden love and respect seems to come out of nowhere.Could have been a good movie....but it's not.

THE HOMESMAN is a dark and gritty western exploring the topic of mental illness in less enlightened times. The story was adapted by Tommy Lee Jones from a 1980s novel, and Jones also directed and stars in the picture as the titular character. He plays an old-timer who agrees to help Hilary Swank transport three mentally ill women some 500 miles to a place of sanctuary where they can be cared for.First off, this is very well shot movie with strong direction from Jones, whose performance is also a quality one. The colours are bright and the landscapes are beauty, which contrasts with the ugly scenes involving the main characters. Mental illness has always been a difficult subject matter for cinema - ONE FLEW OVER THE CUCKOO'S NEST is one of the few successful explorations of the topic - and it translates into a depressing and yes, upsetting story here.There are some dark twists and turns along the way, but the characters and acting keep you watching, and at least one crowd-pleasing moment designed to lift the spirits a little. THE HOMESMAN isn't really a film you can say you enjoy watching, but kudos to Jones for making something a bit different from the norm.

This is literally the worst movie I've ever seen. If you want to see babies and godly women dying, definitely watch this. Women are getting raped. Babies are thrown down the toilet. Horses are eaten. The only reasonable woman hangs herself. This movie is 2 hours of "shock value", and by that I mean desperate for attention, IQ lower than room temperature. I will say that this is the best I've ever seen Hilary Swank do. But I will actually never ever watch another movie by or starring Tommy Lee Jones. The old man just had to write in himself getting laid by a 20 something, before having her kill herself. He is just a sick, perverted old man looking for attention before he dies. Also, why do I have to write 10 lines? First time I've ever reviewed a movie, but this was so terrible I just had to.
