This movie tries so hard to be funny, yet it falls flat every time. Just another example of recycled ideas repackaged with women in an attempt to appeal to a certain audience.

The movie turns out to be a little better than the average. Starting from a romantic formula often seen in the cinema, it ends in the most predictable (and somewhat bland) way.

There are moments that feel comical, some horrific, and some downright inspiring but the tonal shifts hardly matter as the end results come to a film that's perfect for this time.

Two small kids begin to have supernatural powers such as telekinesis, understand and communicate with insects, after discover a strange item on the beach. Soon they will discover other toys but their safety and those around them it is disturbed because somebody from another world has something to say through a plush toy. This film reminded me of The Whispers, seeing a little girl talking to some kind of alien form, my thoughts went to that show. Here the story is good maybe it expands to slow but still the movie is not boring.I liked the great acting from the two unknown small children, I could say that they made a much better job then the adults. Still it has some mystery that may not make any sense for the kids with the same age as those portrayed in the film. So watch it yourself but do not show it to you kid because it is too hard for him to understand what is going on.

Noah and Emma are little kid spending the weekend with their mother Jo (Joely Richardson) at their family cottage. The kids find a strange box while playing on the shore. The box turns out to have strange rocks and glass and a stuff bunny named Mimzy. The premise of the story is compelling. The idea, that little kids have greater understanding while the adults are either disbelieving or too stupid to grasp, is a very powerful one. For 2/3 of this movie, it had me on the edge of my seat. The last act with the introduction of Homeland Security is too heavy handed. Their escape is too unrealistic. In fact, the whole climax lacks the drama needed. And the explanation lacks the magic that was promised by stuff bunny.

I have read a number of the low rating reviews and I have to conclude that these reviewers either a) didn't actually see the film or b)have an grotesquely jaundiced view of the world (Actually exactly the sort of people the film sees as 'poisoning' our environment right now). I thought all the characters responded quite accurately to the circumstances they encountered in the film and were themselves believable types from the real world. The Mimzy was a sophisticated device for identifying a subject and collecting DNA from the past. It's non- threatening approach was in tune with the elevated moral standards of a future society. All the actors did an excellent job with their roles however modest they were and the end result is a joy to watch.
