Pretty Good
Dreadfully Boring
Each character in this movie — down to the smallest one — is an individual rather than a type, prone to spontaneous changes of mood and sometimes amusing outbursts of pettiness or ill humor.
View MoreStory: It's very simple but honestly that is fine.
When his wealthy father dies, "Renny Jacobsen" (Chuck Carrington) is alarmed to discover that he will get very little from the will. Even more surprising is the fact that his father was also a member of a secret society called the "Covenant List of South Carolina" which consists of old families from the Confederacy. Since he is the only male heir from one of these families he is then invited to join. But there is more to this secret society than meets the eye and Renny is about to find out all kinds of disturbing things. Anyway, rather than detail the rest of the story and risk ruining the film for those who haven't seen it I will just say that what struck me most about this movie was that for a Christian movie there wasn't much spirituality and for a thriller there wasn't much suspense. At least I didn't think so. On top of that it started a bit slow and seemed a bit too vague in some places. But other than that I suppose it was watchable and I give it a rating of average.
View MoreAnyone who praises this movie is lying. The acting, the cinematography, the dialogue, the pacing, everything is amateurish and without any form of suspense or drama. I know that some people wants this to be a masterpiece, because of its very obviously Christian message, but that does not redeem anything! And the acting... Chuck Carrington was passable, Hilarie Burton sleepwalked her way through it, and Malcolm McDowell was the same bug eyed maniac he's been playing the last twenty years. The only one who came out of this alive was Pat Hingle, I've always loved that guy.Avoid at all costs, unless you're a die-hard Christian with low standards.
View MoreGot this from Netflix the other night to watch as a family. We were totally surprised to find something we could all watch.Best McDowell performance in a long time. Suspenseful... well shot...great character actors too.It was funny because I couldn't place on of The List members and just saw that he was Tom Cruise's father from Risky Business.Don't know why there are so many anti-Christian comments but this was a good film. And as far as it not being Southern... that is crazy and we live in NC. Never really heard of Hilarie Burton before but she stood out for us as did Will Patton.
View MoreI have nothing against religious movies. Religious people need something to watch on a Saturday night, I guess. But what really ticks me off is when the write-up on the DVD box does not indicate this fact to the potential viewer. Passing off religious propaganda as entertainment is NOT cool, bro.And even if I was a religious person, I would have to agree with most of the other posters here, this movie was a mess. Poorly directed, poorly acted, poorly edited, and the attempt at a soundtrack was hilarious. The fake accents were terrible, the characters were mainly stereotypes, and continuity was out the window. The only reason we sat through this lame waste of time was that it was too late to watch another movie instead. Should have just gone to bed.Absolutely no redeeming qualities to this movie, unless you are the religious type who will immediately endorse anything that will preach your beliefs to the unbelievers, even if it's a pile of garbage. If you aren't, avoid this at all costs. Do not be deceived by the box write-up.
