The Lords of Salem is everything you can expect from a Rob Zombie movie, entertaining at times, but forgettable as a whole (As a Rob fan I think the only movie that doesn't apply to the rule is The Devil's Rejects). This movie starts well, interesting soundtrack, good atmosphere and aestethics, there are some amazing scenes and Rob Zombie proves to be a director that knows how to set an image, but the film turns out to be very slow and underwhelming. I can get it at the beginning, you try to set the mood and atmosphere but if you are 50 minutes into the movie and it still feels like the start, you have a problem. The end, there you have the biggest issue, Rob Zombie is obviously someone with many and great ideas, but this particular film lacks of consistency at the scenes once it reaches the end. The movie also lacks the climax it seems to be building to. The chaotic scene of the final coven or the scene with the opera singing in the palace seems so off with the general tone of the film that it gets annoying. There's no doubt about Zombie's passion, he's obviously inspired by those early classic supernatural horror films we all love, and his as adaptation of the style is quite great, but it doesn't bring nothing new to the table neither leaves anything behind after the title. Nothing against renditions, but you need more to make a good movie As I say at the beginning, the movie is forgettable, some good moments in it and it may be a good film to play when you got nothing more to see and just want something easy to kill time, but I don't see myself revisiting it in the future.

This takes place in Salem MA.A DJ (Sheri Moon Zombie) receives a record recorded by "the Lords". She plays it and it unleashes three witches (Dee Wallace, Patricia Quinn and Judy Geeson) to possess Zombie and make her the bride of Satan.Dark and disturbing full of sick imagery and gratuitous female nudity. Not a lot of blood and gore but the imagery and tone more than make up for it. The acting is excellent across the board and it all leads to a disturbing ending. This was barely released (for some reason) but deserves recognition. I give it a 6.

Rob Zombie's The Lords Of Salem is in my opinion his best film and one that is real well done and original. This movie may not suite the tastes of some of the fans of his previous horror projects, however I do enjoy House Of 1000 Corpses and its sequel The Devil's Rejects quite a bit. I also thought his remake of Halloween was decent and much better and more interesting than most reboots of classic horror genre staples. Anyways, as a fan of the horror genre clearly Rob Zombie is a devoted fan and knows his stuff. He also puts forth the effort to make his films good and goes out of his way to cast good actors that usually don't get their due and are not seen enough in big Hollywood productions. Plus he casts his wife, Sherri Moon Zombie who not only looks great, but gives solid performances on screen. In my opinion, Sherri gives her best performance here and is one that has the most depth. The Lords Of Salem is excellent, creepy, atmospheric horror that brings to mind such classics as Rosemary's Baby, The Shining, and the films of Dario Argento. While, Zombie has no problem wearing his influences on his sleeve, The Lords Of Salem has its own flavor and is real refreshing in modern times where films of this type are nearly extinct and lame and formulaic crap is the norm. I'm grateful for movies like this one that are a nod to the old school, but still have much to offer viewers that love the genre and are interested in seeing something done in the same style, but have a lot to offer with depth and substance while maintain a sense of quality as well.

So, I'd seen this in redbox for a while and not really thought about it because the cover made it look kind of dumb. Anyway I was looking at movies for stocking stuffers at best buy, I saw a blue ray of this that was cheap so I picked it up and read it. "Rob Zombie made this, holy crap!" I didn't know how I'd missed this! Anyway, I bought it, and watched it. My smile turned up-side-down...into a a frown. If I were to describe it, I would say "An ugly tit party, with virtually no story framework". This movie really sucks. I probably will put it underneath my box of bad movies to create another tier.I'm sorry if this sounds like hate. I have been a fan of Rob Zombie since I first heard Living Dead Girl when I was like 14. House of 1000 Corpses was not good but it was a good first shot. Devil's Rejects was super good. Halloween was very good. Now we have this which is terrible. If you make another movie Rob, I'll watch it and I'll always be your fan.
