When aspiring romance novelist Kim Rossi is unceremoniously dumped by her soon-to-be-published romance novelist boyfriend, Kim takes stock and decides to take a leap. She signs up for a romance writing retreat at a quaint Vermont Inn shortly before Christmas, where a top romance novelist is scheduled to attend and read the work of one lucky writer. Shortly after arriving, she crosses paths with Zeke, whom she initially finds to be intrusive and, naturally, ends up being her assignment partner. Worse yet, her ex is also at the retreat. Despite these bumps in the road, Kim steps outside her comfort zone and plunges into the writing exercises, surprising herself. Equally unexpected is the attraction that seems to be building between her and Zeke that promises to take her down a road she never imagined traveling. Based on the book by Richard Paul Evans.

Story: It's very simple but honestly that is fine.

This is the 5th Christmas movie starring Alicia Witt. A Very Merry Mix-Up 2013- 10, Christmas at Cartwrights 2014-8, I'm Not Ready for Christmas 2015-9, A Perfect Christmas Bucket List 2016-8. This is my second favorite mainly due to David Alplay who is the costar. This is his 3rd Christmas movie in a row Ice Sculpture Christmas with Rachel Boston- 2015, Sleigh bells Ring 2016 and this one is his best. He is a bit of a Gregory Peck, but this movie showed he is better at humor. There is a bit of a surprise ending which I suspected from the beginning but my wife was truly surprised and that added to her delight for the movie. Thanks to the queen for giving us another great Christmas movie. The lady that played Sam also did very well. I enjoyed the characters all being writers. This is a fun movie. Don't let the rather low 5 and 6 top reviews stop you. Enjoy.

I love Alicia Witt. This was not a good vehicle for her. She sort of seems to be veering towards a Doris Day type kooky lead girl. I don't like it. I wanted A Very Merry Mix-Up. That was top shelf. There are a few moments where she scored high praise...dressed up for dinner A+ and running in her tight yoga pants. Thank goodness Lucie Guest was in this movie. I hate this trend of Christmas/Not Christmas Movies. This is another plot crow-barred into a Christmas setting...Not fooling me...NO Christmas MAGIC

As an earlier reviewer noted, Alicia Witt is the Queen of Hallmark Christmas movies. She plays to her strengths here creating a witty, warm character. She has great chemistry with her new best friend (Lucie Guest) and prospective love interest (David Alpay). The best scene in the film is her (Witt) complaining about his (Alpay) typing on a typewriter as he complains about her "whale sounds" white noise generator late one night. The dialogue is funny banter, the actors play well off each and it is beautifully shot and directed (Thank you director Alex Wright). The whole film is like that, a nice classy romantic comedy. The novelist Richard Paul Evans has a cameo in the film. Next time, let's promote him to the supporting role of Dad.

The Hallmark Christmas movies have a basic theme-guy & girl meet, attraction begins, some impediment arises...usually due to some misunderstanding, and then true love prevails. What distinguishes the better Hallmark movies from some of the lesser offerings are the cast. Alicia Witt is an extraordinary actress, and brings a combination of fun, warmth and fun to these roles. Mistletoe Inn is no different. The plot is based on a novel by the same name. It is fun and upbeat, and the acting by many familiar actors is solid. Strongly recommend.
