From my favorite movies..
One of the best movies of the year! Incredible from the beginning to the end.
View MoreThe movie really just wants to entertain people.
Mostly, the movie is committed to the value of a good time.
View MoreEasy Rider is to the U.S. as this movie is to south america as a whole. I love how it shows the man behind the myth. Che before he was a revolutionary: An adventurous college student who wanted to explore the rest of south america and see what it really was, if possible even help improve. The film is well shot, well acted and the story is easy to understand and you really sympathize with Che and Alberto's plight: Trying to unite south america under Marxist rule for the greater good. Gael Garcia Bernal really embodies the spirit of che and puts on a good argentine accent. I remember watching it during a plane from peru (yes, I visited macchu picchu there just like in the movie). It's a great movie and worth watching.
View MoreJay Leno, perhaps the most famous comedian on American television 12 years ago, in his monologue the night after the 2005 Oscars, said: "I was so happy this morning that I sang that really wonderful Oscar winning song while driving , ... "La-la-la, la-la-la, la-la-la ... EL RIO! .....God, What GREAT Lyrics, eh?"Be that as it may, Mr. Leno was right about one thing: "Al Otro Lado Del Rio", that song from Motorcycle Diaries really does have some exquisite lyrics! Obviously, Mr. Leno was also right about the focus of his joke. At least 98% of Gringos and non-Hispanics in the U.S.A. probably cannot appreciate nor understand much of these poetic lyrics. However, on the Richter scale of cultural impact, I would rate this event as something like an "8"!There are almost six thousand actors, directors, producers, cinematographers, etc., who are members of The Academy of Arts and Sciences with the right to vote in all categories with nominations. The other Best Song Options available to them in 2005 were, "Accidentally in Love" from Shrek 2, "Believe" appearing in The Polar Express, "Learn to Be Lonely" from The Phantom of the Opera, and "Vois Sur Ton Chemin" a song in French from "Les Choristes".Before the 2005 Oscars, I quite honestly did not have high hopes that "Rio" was going to win. Songs in English are always sure winners! Even throughout the entire history of the Oscars, there had never been a winning song in another language, except only once, and that happened sixty years ago: The very beautiful and romantic "Un Homme Et Une Femme" (1966) Which turned out to be the very First and ONLY time that the Golden Statuette was awarded to a song in French, or any other foreign language, for that matter! But between 1966 and 2005, there certainly was a lot of change!Sure, for many people, the Oscar for a song in Spanish does not seem so important in and of itself, but taken in conjunction with a recent series of related events, there is a real feeling that there is a change in the trajectory of the American cultural river. Also, interestingly enough, for the first time, a Spanish-speaking actress, Colombian Catalina Sandino Moreno, was nominated in the category of Best Actress. Some years ago, the film SPANGLISH attempted to show us just how difficult it is to try to assimilate into mainstream culture, without losing much of their own Hispanic identity.Fifty years ago, it would have been almost impossible for many Americans to name more than 2, 3 or 4 Latinos. Now we have Jennifer Lopez, Sophia Vergara, Shakira, Antonio Banderas, Marc Anthony, Salma Hayek, Penelope Cruz, Carlos Santana, Ricky Martin, Celia Cruz, Elizabeth Peña, Andy Garcia and John Leguizamo, among many others. With the selecting of "Al Otro Lado Del Rio", Hollywood seems to be telling the world, "The Spanish language also has an important place in the United States!"9* .ENJOY/DISFRUTELA!Any comments, questions or observations, in English or Spanish, are welcome!
View MoreDon't even know how to describe this stupid film, because I simply can't comprehend what's the real purpose of making it.What we got here are two stupid young men who thought they are the pioneers to travel the south and north American by riding an old, totally unreliable motorcycle to broaden their views of their future. One of them is even a poor con artist, trying so hard to bullshit all the way. The other one is just like romantic fool, a peacock with a more decent character, even thought of bringing a puppy for his love one. Both of them are terrible bikers, they crashed their miserable motorcycle so many times, even crashed into muddy trenches, gutters or creeks with deep water. They don't seem to have any mechanical knowledge of a motorbike, yet every time they seem to have no problem to fix a badly crashed one. They don't even know when to slow down on dirt turns of the country roads. And I don't know how they could and would broaden their lives' prospect since all they could do is just concentrating to stupidly maintain inappropriate speed, trying to reach some unknown places with food and lodging. The road trip never educated them a bit. They are still who they are from the beginning before they start the journey. I simply couldn't buy anything from this pathetic film, trying to tell us that it's the trip that has formed a great revolutionist in the making. That's total bullshit! I would never believe anything what this film targeted to us: A long road trip on a junk motorbike could make you different, especially when these two morons don't even know where and how to set up a tent during a stormy evening.
View MoreVery well made movie. A journey which you will feel that you are a part of. I felt like I traveled across South America through this movie, the scenery of Latin America that I saw though this movie is beautiful. Gael García Bernal (Ernesto Fuser Guevara) was at his best and so Rodrigo de la Serna (Alberto Granado). They never came out of their role in any part of the movie. The movie shows the real situations that people of Latin America faced during that period. The movie is not a serious one also had some funny moments that really makes this movie more enjoyable. People who loves adventure and trip kind of movie, this one is a must watch.
