Well Deserved Praise
It's fun, it's light, [but] it has a hard time when its tries to get heavy.
View MoreA lot of perfectly good film show their cards early, establish a unique premise and let the audience explore a topic at a leisurely pace, without much in terms of surprise. this film is not one of those films.
View MoreThe movie's neither hopeful in contrived ways, nor hopeless in different contrived ways. Somehow it manages to be wonderful
View MoreThis short film won an Oscar for Best Documentary Short. It was the spark plug for a movement to establish the Redwood National Park, established the year after the film was produced. (1967 is considered by some as the time when out current national preservation movement for historic buildings began, so the film is in keeping with the times in that sense.) The film itself has excellent cinematography. Unfortunately, the film on the DVD is faded and in need of restoration. The narrative is sparse and plodding. However, the reason for the film is given at the end. It points out that it will take 1000 years to replace the mature redwoods if all are cut down.I am glad that The Redwoods is finally out on DVD. It has taken too long to issue this.
