On this fascinating journey you will explore the caves where the early Buddhist masters achieved enlightenment, enter the monasteries where the early Dalai Lamas and the founders of Buddhism meditated and taught, and - at an altitude of over 16,000 feet - look into the remarkable Oracle Lake where every Dalai Lama has had prophetic visions. I really wanted to like this movie. I feel terribly cynical trashing it, and that's why I'm giving it a middling 5. Actually, I'm giving it a 5 because there were some superb performances.

One of the most extraordinary films you will see this year. Take that as you want.

For those who are interested in seeing the sacred sites and brief overviews of these sites as well as the difficulty in such a journey will appreciate this movie and the beautiful images it presents as well as the sad reflection of the destruction of many of the sites by the Communist Chinese Government when it invaded Tibet in the 50's and implemented its "cultural revolution". But also the restorations that have taken place since the 80's and the more open regime that is prevalent today. I particularly enjoyed the visits to many of the sites where Lamas reached enlightenment as well as the endless presence of the Tibetan people that still radiate such sacredness and positive affirmation towards their deep spiritual beliefs.
