Truly Dreadful Film
This is a dark and sometimes deeply uncomfortable drama
View MoreAfter playing with our expectations, this turns out to be a very different sort of film.
View MoreStrong acting helps the film overcome an uncertain premise and create characters that hold our attention absolutely.
View MoreFirst, I must confess that this film was not dubbed nor subtitled. So, as far as I don't understand Japanese language, I'll do my best to explain. It's a crime film about two former pals from the WW2 who, one day, help a woman a sort of refugee involved with gangsters, sort of pimps. Our two pals seem to be retired fishermen. At some moments, I thought of SEA FOG - fishermen and refugees - but this film I just talk about is very depressing, violent, so dark, with an outstanding Ando Noburu, the former authentic Yakuza member, you know the actor with a scarface? He plays here the lead, who defends the girl against the mobsters. Once again, I regret the absence of subtitles or dubbing. But I recommend it anyway. A movie as I crave for. No happy ending here.
