What makes it different from others?

Instead, you get a movie that's enjoyable enough, but leaves you feeling like it could have been much, much more.

A film with more than the usual spoiler issues. Talking about it in any detail feels akin to handing you a gift-wrapped present and saying, "I hope you like it -- It's a thriller about a diabolical secret experiment."

A clunky actioner with a handful of cool moments.

THE SECRET OF MY SUCCESSI have been told by so many people that this is a great, classic film... I disagree. The movie is about a country boy who moves to New York to try and make it in the business world. This comedy has some very funny moments in it, but there were not many laugh out loud moments. It was amusing and the lead character does find himself in some awkward situations. I did laugh when he slept with his bosses wife only to find out it was his Auntie... wrong in so many ways. This is not a bad film. It is fun and good fun, but it is not the classic comedy that a lot of people seem to list it as.It has a great 80s movie soundtrack. If you have read any of my other reviews, you know I get a great feeling when watching an 80s film. I just think that they have the best feeling in them, and this is no exception.Michael J. Fox plays the main character. I like Michael. He is a classic actor and he has made some classic movies. This is clearly not his best, but it was OK. Helen Slater also stars in this. Helen is mostly famous for playing Supergirl. Her acting in this was quite bad really. I have met Helen and she is a really nice person, but this is not her finest hour. She played a stuck up workaholic, but her acting was very square most of the way through the film. Other cast members were Richard Jordon, Margaret Whitton, John Pankow and Christopher Murney. They did quite well, but it was definitely comedy acting. The story is quite good. It was very entertaining and funny when Michael was trying to work as a mail boy and a very important "suit" at the same time. It was a lot of fun to watch him trying to live 2 lives at the same time.I will give this film 6 out of 10."No, I don't want you to spy on him. I want you to get to be friends with him, and then rifle through his papers and tell me what you find."For more reviews, please like my Facebook page:https://www.facebook.com/pages/Ordinary-Person-Movie- Reviews/456572047728204?ref=hl

Michael J Fox is always a bit of fun and this comedy is no different. However, it hasn't dated as well as it could have but the biggest fault is that Fox doesn't suit all the scenarios that well. He's supposed to be 24, but looks ten years younger. Whilst that's fine when he's the Kansas dreamer and an office junior - even when he's being seduced by the dragon that is 'Aunt' Vera Prescott (Margaret Whitton), but he looks faintly ridiculous when chasing and finally winning the sophisticated executive played by Helen Slater.Michael J is still a dervish of frantic activity and there are some priceless comic moments with Vera. Her husband (Richard Jordan) is slimy and devious and nasty enough to be the controlling big boss. And, of course there's the overall upbeat message about fulfilling one's dreams - if you work hard enough and get the lucky breaks. The movie still says a lot about the '80s boom'n'bust era and the corporate rat-race and there's some great views of New York City. I had seen this movie about ten years ago but it just doesn't quite do 'it' for me now. Hard to put a finger on why so I'm just going to have to blame the scenes with Helen Slater as that's the most obvious fault, to me.Lovers of Michael J however will always love this film and I appreciate that, but for me, it doesn't quite work.

Brantley Foster (Michael J,Fox) is from Kansas, wanting to better himself in the big wide world he hits New York hoping to make it big. However, landing a job in the big apple isn't as easy as he had thought. So turning to a tycoon uncle he literally doesn't know, he lands a job the mail room!. From where Brantley leads a double life as he creates Carlton Whitfield and sets about bluffing his way to the top and into the heart of sexy executive Christy Wills (Helen Slater).Michael J. Fox is on cracking comedy form as the young hero of this 1980s light comedy. It's the sort of 80s film that has managed to break out of that decade and still be enjoyable in this latest, power driven, age. The formula is safe and plays out as expected, and the soundtrack, including notable movie riffs, adds to the high sense of energetic fun on offer. Wafer thin plot be damned, Fox delivers on the star vehicle promise and he in turn is backed up by a smashing turn from Margaret Whitton. Silly, unadulterated fun it be. 7/10

One could comment about how best this movie works. Or that it was symbolic of the materialistic 1980s and hence that is one of the reasons why it was so popular. In my opinion, this movie works as a light-hearted comedy and should be seen as such. If so, one could sit back and truly enjoy this film. Michael J. Fox plays a savvy and ambitious young man in The Secret Of My Success, which was aptly directed by Herbert Ross. It is a nice is a throwback to 50s-60s romantic comedies. Ross keeps things moving in an endearingly old-fashioned way. Fox is genial and charming. Helen Slater is a genuinely beautiful actress. Richard Jordan is good as the mogul. Margaret Whitton is all sexuality. All the supporting actors and actresses are also good. Carlo DiPalma's cinematography is comedy bright. David Foster's soundtrack works well. I must add that watching Mr. Fox is always a joy. He is a talented, kind and charismatic actor. I don't think that viewers are getting enough of him (understandably).
