Let's be realistic.
A film of deceptively outspoken contemporary relevance, this is cinema at its most alert, alarming and alive.
View MoreOne of the most extraordinary films you will see this year. Take that as you want.
View MoreThe movie really just wants to entertain people.
This documentary is so incredible and powerful. Three stories from three different people from different parts of the world yet they all have something in common. Every time I think of this documentary it just brings me to tears, in a joyful way. This documentary makes me want to be a better person. Thank you.
View MoreWorld hunger is one of those problems that overwhelms you into thinking the issue can never be solved—so why even try?The Starfish Throwers shows you why. They may not solve the problem of world hunger, but after seeing this documentary you no longer have an excuse to sit idly by and do nothing. Using three real-life examples from totally different walks of life, it inspires you to realize that anyone can have a far-reaching impact through simple actions. The Starfish Throwers is a call to action. How wonderful would it be if we used the power of social networking to show people how easily they can help feed the hungry? We could use Facebook, Twitter and Instagram to share updates and photos of how we helped someone which in turn would help inspire others to do the same. #itonlytakesaseedling #katieskrops #akshayatrust #mrlaw #throwstarfish #bethechange
View MoreMy family and I had the absolute pleasure of seeing this film at the Cleveland International Film Festival last weekend. Knowing very little about the film other than the description that was provided on the film festival website, we had no idea what an incredible experience we had waiting for us.I truly don't have the words to adequately express my gratitude for the tremendous amount of work and time that was put into creating such an important and life-changing work. This is a film that stays with you, and a film that I'd like to share with so many others. The Starfish Throwers addresses the issue of hunger and homelessness in such a meaningful, personal and profound way.If you have the chance to see it, don't hesitate. I can't recommend it highly enough. Definitely the best documentary I've ever seen.
View MoreI have just had the honor of attending the world premiere of The Starfish Throwers (2013)directed by Jesse Roesler at the 16th Thessaloniki Documentary Festival in Greece. This film captured my heart as did the title of the film the minute I read through the Festival program. Not fully understanding the true meaning behind "The Starfish Throwers" title, I was soon powerfully immersed in a world which is so close to home but unfortunately ignored by the majority of us. A world where it takes only one kind act of selflessness to start a global movement. The three stories we become part of (and I honestly felt a part of each one!) are wonderfully portrayed in an extremely humble way. No histrionics in this one! The viewer "feels" the plight of the unfortunate but also "lives" the quiet determination and total lack of self-admiration found in the three main heroes (and they are heroes!). Each story is told with such sensitivity, reaching out to a world where each one of us can help if we only put our minds to it. My congratulations to the entire team! I will try with all my heart to 'throw a starfish' and help pass on this life-changing idea.
