I love this movie so much
Too many fans seem to be blown away
At first rather annoying in its heavy emphasis on reenactments, this movie ultimately proves fascinating, simply because the complicated, highly dramatic tale it tells still almost defies belief.
View MoreThis is a small, humorous movie in some ways, but it has a huge heart. What a nice experience.
View MoreIn all honesty the plot is paper thin and seems more like a series of random events than a cohesive story, but isn't that kinda what going on a trip with your family is like. The acting is fun not award winning but more than passable for a television movie on Univision or whatever channel you might see it on. If you Catch it on the tube give it a chance, you might have a laugh or two. Personally i appreciate seeing independent Latino films being made, it's a welcomed relief from the constant and painful dubbing of American blockbuster that usually crowed the airways. Yes it is probably the most cheesy movie ever made full of clichés and predictable moments but for me that was part of the fun. Worth a watch if you have nothing else on.
View MoreI went to see it because of the funny trailer, the presence of El Pibe Valderrama, and the fact that I am from Cartagena, which is the location where the movie takes place. I found it kind of insulting that there are a lot of inaccuracies going from landmark locations and surroundings to traffic flow (the stars vehicles driving the wrong way) and no one that has been in the city long enough will believe most of those sequences. The movie tries to entertain but falls for the easy sequences and situations right down to practically copying similar sequences and characters from other movies. The plot is scattered all over the place and several subplot lines are open but never closed. A good opportunity to take on the subject of teenage rebellion and parenting is completely wasted. We see a youngster being grounded but by the next sequence is like it never happened. The rapping thing gets really annoying by the first third of the movie. John's acting seems right for what's intended. I had an uncle just like that and it is obviously very far from being ,say, a special commando task leader trying to recover control of an inter- ocean flight. Kudos for his Spanish pronunciation. Kristina Lilley's character is a total cliché, as well as Maria Gabriela's. Karen Martinez and Martin Karpan are simply eye candy. And I for one, would have like more of el Pibe than the annoying rapper kid. In the end, the movie felt like an excuse to show the different landmarks of the city (which I am grateful for) and that someone just wrote whatever situation he/she could think of to get the characters from one place to the other. I'm really curious in why John would agree to do a movie like that. I would definitely recommend skipping this one.
View MoreI counted the minutes for the movie's ending. Dago García's commercial strategy seems to have worked once again with a goodish-for-TV movie. I was very curious about John Leguizamo's decision to do this film, knowing that he is of Colombian descent, but also knowing his not knowing who the producers were. He is in my opinion an outstanding actor who must have been tricked to do what will certainly be the lowest of the lowest point of his career. The movie's plot is poor. Colombian cinema has made some progress but this case is not an example of such. Please do not waste your money or time on what is a very, very, very bad movie. Blame it on the Mayans.
View MoreThe movie is really unbearable. It does not have the slightest trace of humor. The characters are detestable to the point that it is not possible feel the slightest sympathy for any of them, especially the child rapper. John Leguizamo brings nothing to the film, possibly because of the dull script , slow and lacking in content. The use of flashback takes and fast motion scenes becomes tiresome. I felt robbed of my good faith paying a ticket for the premiere of this movie. To whoever wants to see this movie, I suggest him/her to read reviews and take an informed decision whether or not to go and see this movie. I really hope you not to feel the disappointment we felt at the theater yesterday.
