This movie is the proof that the world is becoming a sick and dumb place
View MoreI like movies that are aware of what they are selling... without [any] greater aspirations than to make people laugh and that's it.
View MoreWhile it doesn't offer any answers, it both thrills and makes you think.
View MoreThere is definitely an excellent idea hidden in the background of the film. Unfortunately, it's difficult to find it.
View MoreRecap: It's dangerous times for Reeve. He is one of the best vampire hunters around, but lately he has come up against strangely many vampires of European descent, and especially one strong that seem to be of royal blood, that killed his partner. There seem to be an internal struggle within the vampire ranks, to unlock an ancient magical secret. Now he got a new rookie partner Gypsy, and his obnoxious sister Helen has found this new sunlight shy boyfriend Kazaf. Now Kazaf got his own problems, he is the last vampire prince, and a prime target. Everything will boil down to a big showdown.Comments: Promises too much and has too high ambition when it tries to stun with spectacular effects that it doesn't has the skill or budget to really pull off. The vampire story is just another pretext for a martial arts movie, but it works as well as any other story. What kills the movie though is the introduction of the character Helen. She gets slightly better as the movie goes along, but by then the damage is already done. She is really annoying, obnoxious and seem to has lost the ability to speak, just going around screaming. She is no better than a petulant three year old. And that's no treat to watch.Jackie Chan, is however, and he saves the movie somewhat, even if he introduces a kind of comedy that doesn't fit with the rest of the movie. But he is fun to watch. But all in all it is an average movie, it is entertaining enough to pass time when nothing else is on, but I wouldn't choose it before anything else.5/10
View MoreI happened to see that this was going to be on TV, and after looking it up, I instantly wanted to catch it. While arguably not a masterpiece, this definitely is an enjoyable, lighthearted ride. I don't know which version I saw, other than that it was subbed, not dubbed(frankly, I might have skipped it if I had found it to be the other way around), so apart from the little bit of English, the language spoken is Cantonese. This is about vampires and two partners who hunt them. The plot is engaging and interesting enough, and this is actually almost moving at one point. It holds surprises, and I certainly hadn't guessed the ending. The martial arts are awesome, amazing choreography(and I swear, they throw a few tricks in there that I haven't seen anywhere else), and the use of props(not to mention that kick-ass stick) is really good. I enjoyed Chan in this(note that he isn't the lead). The cinematography and editing are marvelous, apart from the occasional shot that is awkwardly close. They create a nifty visual style that doesn't seem flashy, and I did not at any time feel like I was just viewing a "show", nothing is gratuitous. The music is great, and fits. This has fairly well-done and well-integrated effects. The acting isn't bad(if they aren't asked to do an awful lot). This has what has to be the most shrill and screeching young woman ever in a film, but she isn't terribly obnoxious, no, instead, she's funny(as are the jokes and gags in this, with a couple of exceptions). The sense of humor leans towards the silly and goofy, with a tad quirkiness, and I did not find it irritating, as I usually do with such. The females are cute and charming(and hot), and the characters in general aren't annoying. If I get a chance, I'll probably watch the sequel. There is some strong violence and blood in this. I recommend this to any fan of fast-paced, cool action that doesn't take itself too seriously. 6/10
View MoreLotsa action, cheesy love story, unexpected actors and overall great fun. The special effect are acceptable/decent, some of the fighting is kinda neat with some interesting acrobatic moves. The overall story moves along, and is cheesy enough to keep you wondering when the inevitable is going to happen, although there is a bit of a twist (just a small one). The overall naivety of the movie make it quite whimsical at times. Cute enough chicks too what more could you want. PS. if you're gonna review a movie like this, try to review it in terms of the category the movie would fall (not necessarily where it was intended to fall). ie don't bomb out good cheesy movies!
View MoreI saw this movie in Blockbuster and thought it might be a good Sunday evening movie when there is nothing else to do. So I bought it used, 3 DVDs for $25. Although it was cheap, my money would have been better spent on a nail to drive through my foot. The film started out nicely. Kinda Dark and mysterious. I was always enthralled with vampire and samurai movies as a kid. I thought the combo would be really cool. The first fight scene was pretty cool. I was excited for the rest of the movie. Then the movie took a serious nose dive.I understand that this was a big hit in the east. I guess because of the twins. I don't see it though. This movie, aside from the first 10 minutes, was absolutely horrible. So many movies in this genre have the potential to be great, and blow it terribly. This is just another casualty.Jacki Chan's role in this film doesn't make any sense at all. Whyyyyyyyy? Complete silliness. He probably made a few bucks off it though. The only cool thing in this movie are the swords they use. Nice idea.I wouldn't recommend this movie to anyone.
