A story that's too fascinating to pass by...

Keira Brennan

The movie is made so realistic it has a lot of that WoW feeling at the right moments and never tooo over the top. the suspense is done so well and the emotion is felt. Very well put together with the music and all.

It’s fine. It's literally the definition of a fine movie. You’ve seen it before, you know every beat and outcome before the characters even do. Only question is how much escapism you’re looking for.

I have seen about half a dozen episodes of "The X-Files" and therefore not enough to really call me a fan. What I saw was certainly good. I was quite eager to see a movie based on such a popular show. I believe that it was actually the relationship between Mulder and Scully that was said to have created the term "shipping". As someone who's really into that, it was a lot of fun to see their chemistry. I knew something would interrupt their kiss. Well, Mulder does mouth to mouth on Scully later, so we got that at least. The plot features a building being destroyed which is revealed to have covered up the deaths of people who died from an alien virus. I just felt like I was watching nothing more than just a long episode of the actual show. That's not what I want to see in a movie. It got really interesting toward the end where they were talking about getting rid of the virus but then the movie ends right there! I really was disappointed by that, but it's still not horrible. I especially like seeing the main villain, Cigarette Smoking Man, but I wish he had more screen time. **1/2

After being an x-Files fan for years (not fanatical, but love Sci-Fi and it was the best going on TV at the time) I watched the movie for the first time 20 years after it came out. Now I understand why I lost interest in the show starting in season 6, I missed the episode between season's 5 and 6 which is the movie. While having read and heard this a lot, I always took it with a grain of salt and thought like all oversimplifications there was more to it.Well 20 years later and having watched the movie now in proper sequence with the show on Netflix it truly is just a high budget, big screen episode filling in the story between seasons 5 and 6. Good episode, higher budget effects and filled in some blanks that made me lose interest in the show in season 6 that is making me enjoy the later seasons much more that sums up what the movie is other than it actually shows us the aliens and explains how the cover up fits into the conspiracy and why it is critical that they make progress both from the good guys perspective and the conspirators. Aliens are invading and while being kept secret in a dark and nasty way, still a major problem needing addressed. While I would like to know how a near dead Scully and exhausted Mulder get from the south pole back home at the end of the movie, not knowing how they get rescued is one of the many missing facts that don't make a difference. So now I know, think the movie was good, but it was a high budget episode that filled in some important facts I didn't know since I've been busy having a life. Now that I have grand kids and streaming has brought the opportunity I've now been able to fill in some gaps in an old favorite show and enjoy it a little more the second time around.

The X-Files: Fight the Future (1998): Dir: Rob Bowman / Cast: David Duchovny, Gillian Anderson, Martin Landau, Armin Mueller-Stahl, John Neville: Enchanting sense of wonder and imagination. It plays on symbolism with honest government and other mysteries. David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson plays two agents bent on solving a case involving alien activity. Martin Landau plays a paranoid doctor who knows of a cover up. Annoying villain, played by John Neville, who constantly chain smokes and looks like an all around jackass that affects the film's credibility as entertainment. They call him Cigarette Smoking Man. He comes off as Ass Clown Man. Intriguing plot with many story twists with director Rob Bowman exploring the operation in question. Duchovny and Anderson have wonderful chemistry as they fight against the system and try to survive attempts made on their lives. Landau steals scenes as the paranoid doctor although more footage of him would have been great. Armin Mueller-Stahl also appears in what could have been a broader role. Nonetheless he steals his scenes particularly his final scene. Capitalizing on the popular show but it is the provocative nature that the program presents that allows the film to succeed. It is an entertaining screen adaptation that reveals everything except the answers, but who expected that? Score: 8 ½ / 10

The X-Files is a great movie with a well developed storyline with a talented cast.I have never seen a single episode of the television series and decided to watch this movie when I saw that it was on TV,I was afraid that I wouldn't set a lot of it since I haven't watched the series, but it was clearly written so people who don't watch the series could still understand what was going on.The two main actors,Derek Duchovney and Gillian Anderson, are the best part of this movie, they both suit their characters extremely well and you can tell with the on screen chemistry that they were use to working with each other from the series.I think fans of the series will probably still enjoy it very much, but people who haven't seen the X-Files can still definitely watch the movie, and I would recommend as a good sci-fi and mystery.Mulder and Scully get caught up in a worldwide conspiracy that could change the future of mankind.
