Really Surprised!
Absolutely amazing
Blending excellent reporting and strong storytelling, this is a disturbing film truly stranger than fiction
View MoreAll of these films share one commonality, that being a kind of emotional center that humanizes a cast of monsters.
View MoreThis is a most excellent film. Klaudia Kovacs has created an informative, entertaining and very important film. This film is a must-see. This film is about the Hungarian Revolution. The film tells the story on how the Hungarians stood up to the Russians and Communism. These events take us to the aftermath of the revolution and its affects around the world. Following this revolution, other nations began to protest and communism collapsed worldwide. Many people who witnessed and participated in the Revolution are in this film. From Hungarian Freedom Fighters, Students, Even a Russian Soldier. Cheers to Klaudia and the rest of the production team for bringing this very important event to the big screen.
View MoreMy mother was there, in square at the beginning of the revolution. This film fits right in with all the stories that I have heard a thousand times. In fact, the image of a young lady in the centre of the flag with the Russian emblem cut out looks remarkably like pictures of her I have from that time period. Maybe it is wishful thinking, but that lady may be her. In any case, for me, it is her.I especially appreciate the connection of the revolution with the eventual demise of the communist system as a whole, and the end of the cold war. I discussed the film with her and she agrees. She is very eager to see the film, and stated that "we never really got any true recognition for our contribution. It is about time." I hope the film will be available soon so I can show it to her.
View MoreHistory is made accessible and engaging in TORN FROM THE FLAG, a film whose first person accounts of the Hungarian Revolution are gripping, informative and, ultimately, very moving! And the film looks great. Gorgeous! No big surprise with the likes of László Kovács and Vilmos Zsigmond behind the lens. One story in particular moved me -- a world-weary man bent on revenge after the war has his heart turned in a single moment with an innocent child. Directors Klaudia Kovacs and Endre Hules have clearly put their hearts into this project, which I understand was a long time in the making. They should be proud of themselves, as this is first rate work.Would not be surprised to see TORN among the nominees at the next Academy Awards Ceremony.
View MoreThank you Laszlo Kovacs, Vilmos Zsigmond for filming proof what forethought to get this on film. Thank you Klaudia and George for brilliantly putting it into the can. WoW. How would anyone like me know what horrors the Hungarians have suffered without filmmakers as these. I've gained a whole new respect and understanding for this country. Its one great memorial for Laszlo Kovacs...who I am a huge fan of. One one hand to see his earliest work was a treat. He will be missed, we lost yet another creative soul/teacher. I'm not one to watch something over and over especially when a film like this stays with you forever. When made so brilliantly you don't need to. I will not forget the accounting of these peoples horrors have endured any time soon if ever. It also brings up feelings of gratefulness to be raised in the USA. But also how I was taught of other countries & the people who live there in a very biased/not very factual way. This films facts moved me to sadness.
