Let's be realistic.
It is a performances centric movie
everything you have heard about this movie is true.

View MoreIn the Twentieth-Third Century, in Angel City, the trooper Jack Deth (Tim Thomerson) hunts down the criminal Martin Whistler (Michael Stefani) that killed his wife and turns weak-minded people into Trancers to follow his command. Jack is assigned by the government to travel to 1985 to chase Whistler that has fled to the past to kill their ancestors and assume the government. The way to travel in time is injecting a drug that makes the consciousness of the user traveling through ancestors. Jack learns that Whistler left his body in the Twentieth-Third Century and took over his ancestor, L.A. Police Detective Weisling. Before traveling to the past, Jack destroys Whistler's body to trap him in the past. Jack awakes in the body of the journalist Phil Dethton that had one night stand with the sexy photographer Leena (Helen Hunt). Jack teams up with Leena to look for the the ancestors of the member of the government, but Whistler has the power of the police. Will they succeed?"Trancers" is a cult sci-fi film directed by Charles Band in a film- noir style. The idea of traveling in time through ancestors is unique and the story has action and humor in right doses. Helen Hunt is very cute and shows great chemistry with Tim Thomerson). My vote is six.Title (Brazil): "Trancers – O Exterminador do Século XXIII" ("Trancers – The Terminator from the Twentieth-Third Century")
View MoreJack Deth is a cop in 2247, disposing of the disciples of Martin Whistler, who uses his psychic power to 'trance' those with weak minds and force them to obey his every desire. Whistler had been thought to be dead, but he's alive in the year 1985. Whistler's plan is to hunt down the ancestors of the City Council, and then nothing can stop Whistler from controlling the city. That's where Deth comes into the equation, and is sent back by inhabiting the body of his ancestor. The only problem is that Whistler's ancestor is a police detective, and he's trancing people back in 1985. With the help of Lena, he must find and protect Hap Ashby, a former baseball pitcher now living on Skid Row, and face Whistler.........If Trancers didn't have such a short running time, one fears it would probably outstay its welcome. It's a cult movie because it's just absolutely bonkers, and Thomerson, thanks to some bizarre role choices, is one walking, talking cult. And this is where it all began. It's spawned so many imitations, someone being sent back, or forward in time to prevent something, or make something happen, and with BTTF being released only a few months before, it's seems that 1985 set the template for time travel adventure.Almost very high concept science fiction action movie released since, has some sort of reference to Trancers. The Matrix Time cop Hidden Even X-Men: DOFP have some sort of connection to this movie, but why does such a low budget, B-Grade movie have such a legacy?Again, it's just unbelievable, and straight to the point. There's no rationale to the film, the narrative doesn't even try to explain the concept of being Tranced, you just get Tranced, and the film just concentrates on Deth, and his wonderful could care less attitude. It's fun, silly, and spawned so many sequels.A tent pole of eighties cool.
View MoreSure "Out of Africa" is a good enough movie, I guess, but "Trancers" was hands down the greatest film to come out of 1985! It was bloodier then "Rambo: First Blood part II", it was more violent then "Cocoon", it was more intense then "The Goonies", and had a more grounded realistic approach to time travel then "Back to the Future". Tim Thomperson as Jack Deth is classic, the man brings the character to life and gives him gravity. After watching this movie I wept, openly for I knew I would never see a movie more beautiful again in my lifetime.Simply said, watch it!!! Watch it now!!!
View MoreI am actually a big B-Movie fan, but this movie was just awful, and not in the good way.Whoever the guy who plays Jack Deth is has to be one of the worst actors ever. His "serious" lines were laughable. Even Helen Hunts lines were bad, although I think terrible dialogue writing could be blamed for most of it. And did anyone else find it kinda creepy that Helen Hunt falls for a guy who looks old enough to be her grandfather?I am surprised Helen Hunt got more roles after this bore-fest. She is a great actress, and this dud could've destroyed her career before it even got started.
