Buddy Visalo (Michael Rispoli) is a factory worker, a frustrated crooner who once had a shot at the big time. Buddy's dreams of greatness have been reduced to an endless series of failed moneymaking schemes. His latest is buying a two-family house for him and his wife, Estelle (Katherine Narducci) and converting the ground floor into a neighborhood bar where he can perform. The wrench in the works is that he also inherits the upstairs tenants, Mary,a pregnant Irish girl fresh off the boat (Kelly Macdonald) and her abusive, alcoholic husband, Jim (Kevin Conway). As Buddy's gang of Italians tries to handle the situation, the girl goes into labor, and a baby is born, forcing them all to confront the limits of their tolerance and compassion.

The storyline feels a little thin and moth-eaten in parts but this sequel is plenty of fun.

It's funny, it's tense, it features two great performances from two actors and the director expertly creates a web of odd tension where you actually don't know what is happening for the majority of the run time.

Actress is magnificent and exudes a hypnotic screen presence in this affecting drama.

It is a whirlwind of delight --- attractive actors, stunning couture, spectacular sets and outrageous parties. It's a feast for the eyes. But what really makes this dramedy work is the acting.

I came across this movie completely by accident, while changing channels. I actually saw the baby and thought how cute he was and got so taken in by the movie, I couldn't stop watching. I had to find out when it would be on again and made sure i caught it. The movie is absolutely brilliant and extremely underrated!! I have been kind of obsessed with it since seeing it. I have seen it about 15 times, but I am still trying to find the DVD in stores, which seems impossible.' I have also been trying to find out if it were a true story....I was really hoping it was true, but now I see it says drama, so i guess not.I recommend this movie to everyone, as it is in my all time top 5 favorite movies.

This is one of the best movies I have seen -- in its quiet, understated way, it has made it to my top 10. The performances and direction is superb, the moral conflict depicted with great sensitivity. Most of all, this movie is very well written. It will either inspire you to become a screenwriter or if you are one, it will show you what great writing is all about. I am glad the producers saw the gold in the script, gathered the finances from several sponsors (see the list at the end of the movie) and "walked the walk" in bringing this elegant story to the screen. Put it on your netflix list and bump it to the top of your list! It'll show you how movies ought to be made.

This is a fine movie, by a talented artist. The music, the photography, but especially the story are of one piece. Ray Defelitta could have jazzed it up but wisely stayed within the characters and the spirit of his script. He makes it seem so easy. I don't know what to make of it taking 5 years for his next movie to be made, except this business is absurd. I hope he doesn't ever lose what he has here, a place that is fully realized and characters who breathe real air and have real emotions. The acting is extraordinary. The movie kind of reminds me of De Capra. I can't wait for his next film and boy it would be so nice if it was a commercial success. Or am I living in dreamland. We will see.

This Is One Of Those Little Heard Of Films That Turns Out To Be Simply Brilliant... It Has Just The Right Ingredients To Tug At Your Heart And Take You To That Special Place. I Loved It ! Michael Rispoli Is In My Opinion An Under Rated Actor.
