Such a frustrating disappointment

A lot of perfectly good film show their cards early, establish a unique premise and let the audience explore a topic at a leisurely pace, without much in terms of surprise. this film is not one of those films.

I love a good mind bending film with a non-conventional narrative structure. Films that challenge the viewer to figure out what exactly is going on and what it all actually means or represents. It's not enough for the movie to just be odd and confusing. The real test for these types of films is whether I feel engaged and intrigued by what I am watching. This film definitely captured my attention and held it from start to finish. The closest comparison I can think of would be David Lynch films, which I am a huge fan of. If anything, Upstream Color has a more straight forward narrative than the more surreal Lynch films like Inland Empire or Lost Highway. You can go through the movie and follow what is happening, for the most part, while piecing together what it all means. At the end of the film, you will want to go through the movie in your head to form a conclusion about what exactly happened and how you interpret the film, both narratively and thematically. If you go into a movie expecting it to spell everything out and come to a gift wrapped conclusion, you probably won't enjoy this film. If you like movies that require the viewer to draw their own conclusions, this film might be right for you.8/10...but that's just like, my opinion, man# Of Times Watched: Once

I seem to be in the distinct minority who feel that the first third of the movie is weakest. What follows would not be much less abstruse if the whole criminal body-snatcher caper element weren't there. If you're gonna make an existential film, just go for it. After all, Upstream Color doesn't tread any ground that Godard and Fellini didn't shatter a half-century ago.By the time Amy Seimetz has short hair, the film is captivating with its imagery and soundscape. Really, I could rewind to any random point and be thoroughly entertained. Coherent narratives are for sissies.I wish I could've seen this on a full-size theater screen with a great sound system. Even on a home theater system, though, the sound design of this movie is awesome. Who knows, maybe the movie will make sense after a few more viewings..

I watched this movie in a paid streaming service, hence I had the chance to watch it again but I didn't. I felt so awful after watching it, for not being able to understand the purpose of this movie or what it means. I spent sometime reading shared thoughts of people here and there about what the movie could mean to them and I found that it is totally hard to get a reasonable single conclusive meaning for this piece.I originally gave the movie 1 out of 10 as I couldn't enjoy it and it didn't reach me for obvious reason, I was in hurry. Even though I connected the dots (I understood some how what it is on the outside!!) after watching the first quarter of this movie but it kept stretching for me and that made me lose the point of it.It is a very slow presentation of science fictional concept, the rest is merely a philosophical and artistic presentations. Philosophical and artistic presentations that can make people who watch this movie get confused about it like I was. The movie does not have parts repeated but chapters presented, it is a whole intact story of when the 'concept' suggested happen, what impact 'we' have on us.I give this movie 3 out of 10 for its ability to bring in a unique views on science fiction movie genre.

I usually like your non-traditional Hollywood movie but this one goes way over the cliff. Too slow and boring in most of the scenes. A real mess of a movie. I am glad I saved my $10 and watched it on DVD. A total waste of time. Go somewhere else and prosper. A girl gets drugged by a devious guy and turns her into a pliable automaton ready to do his bidding for financial gain. She is de-wormed by a group of nefarious people who are either good Samaritans or just using her for their oswn purposes. She then meets a guy that seems to have had the same experience and love ensues. If you want something out of the ordinary then watch "Naked Lunch". That will creep you out and you will still have a exhilarating viewing experience.
