Truly Dreadful Film
Highly Overrated But Still Good
It's fun, it's light, [but] it has a hard time when its tries to get heavy.
View MoreIt's a movie as timely as it is provocative and amazingly, for much of its running time, it is weirdly funny.
View MoreWild Zero is not a movie. It is an experience, an in your face, melt your brain piece of pure crazy. The kind that makes my wife say, "Do we really own this?"Yes. We do. I'm going to buy it again just to have it twice.Ace is our hero, Guitar Wolf's biggest fan. After he saves the band from a tense standoff with The Captain, an evil music executive, he becomes blood brothers with Guitar Wolf himself (the other members are Bass Wolf and Drum Wolf) and receives a signal whistle for whenever he is in trouble.Guitar Wolf is so great that flames come out of their mic stands and they blast the crowd with lightning when they play. They sound like fuzz and noise and menace. They are everything perfect about rock and roll.On his journey to the next Guitar Wolf show, Ace meets Tobio, a Thai stranger on the run. He saves her from a robbery then leaves, but on the road he encounters zombies. Realizing that he's in love — and inspired by the spirit of Guitar Wolf — he goes back to save her.The Captain comes back to fight Guitar Wolf with a grenade launcher (which Guitar Wolf shrugs off, only pausing to tune his guitar). There are zombie fights galore. Many, many heads explode. A naked military girl kills zombies from her shower. Oh yeah — and Ace finds out that Tobio is really a guy, a fact that this movie celebrates. Yes — instead of making jokes, the spirit of Guitar Wolf tells Ace that "Love has no borders, nationalities or genders! DO IT!" Keep in mind this movie was made nearly twenty years ago, so this is pretty amazing.Read more at https://bandsaboutmovies.com/2017/10/13/wild-zero-1999/
View MoreWild Zero is one loud, funny, gory trip through trash-movie-history, and director Tetsuro Takeuchi seems to be a big George A. Romero / Tarantino-enthusiast. While the plot is rather weird (aliens wake the dead, and a shy rock'n'roll boy tries to save his girl out of this zombie mess with the help of the mighty, mighty GUITAR WOLF-guys. Girl turns out to be a boy, too, and Guitar wolf Teshij teaches our hero a lesson:"rock'n'roll has no boundaries! not in gender, religion or race!") the movie is stuffed with quotes from other cool flicks like "the great rock'n'roll swindle", Romero's Zombie-trilogy, from dusk till dawn, mars attacks, and the soundtrack is a nice-bundled package of R'n'R-, Surf,-or Punk Rock-songs making you jump off your sofa and freak out - check out "roaring blood" performed by GUITAR WOLF!! I really liked this movie and wait for the planned sequel......:)

View MoreCan't help echoing a bunch of the other comments here; this is one of the most --maybe even THE most--fun, high-energy, and surprisingly touching and endearing movies in the rock-horror genre EVER. I would never have expected to use the words "touching and endearing" in reviewing a movie that contains so much gore and detonated skulls, but so help me Dead Elvis, this baby has its head and heart squarely in the right place. It sincerely BELIEVES in the life-saving power of true love, loyal friendship and rock'n'roll, and it puts itself on the line to prove it. Enough people here have run down the basic plot, so I won't: but, holy smoke you guys! Laser-beam-firing anti-zombie guitar picks! Flame-shooting microphones! Flame-shooting motorcycles! A magic whistle that calls The Coolest Garage Rock Band on Earth, Guitar Wolf (OWOOOO!) to your aid when all seems lost! Hordes of lurching blue zombies muttering "zuuunoo..." (yeah, that's Japanese for "braaiiin...")! and, geez, that transcendent moment when G. Wolf yanks a katana out of the neck of his guitar like that avenging sister in "Zatoichi" and **slices a spaceship in half**!! What more could you possibly want?! How about a wonderful little cross-gender romance? Got that, too!--and the moment when G. Wolf (who BTW I think does an excellent job of playing himself, as do his bandmates B. Wolf and D. Wolf) strikes a heroic stance and counsels our hero, Ace, to believe in love and not in boundaries made me cheer out loud. I guess people who like their zombie movies grim and ugly won't care for it (their loss); but anyone who loved "Six-String Samurai" or "Samurai Fiction" or the BRILLIANT anime "Samurai Champloo" ought to love this (it's got some zombies too); anyone who loves "Rock'n'Roll High School" ought to love this; aw heck, anyone who believes in the power of rock'n'roll ought to love this. Do not miss it. You will automatically become cooler just by spending time with this little gem.
