Truly Dreadful Film

Really Surprised!

There is just so much movie here. For some it may be too much. But in the same secretly sarcastic way most telemarketers say the phrase, the title of this one is particularly apt.

Where as the first "Young and Dangerous" movie was concentrating on the action, and the second movie was build around a solid storyline, the third movie is somewhat of a hybrid, trying to accomplish a lot, but failing to do so in the intended way.The story is a further continuation of the storyline from parts one and two, which was great, and Chan Ho Nam (played by Ekin Cheng) become the target of two gang members from a rival gang, setting him up in a frame to make it seem like he killed the head boss of the Hung Hing gang. So it is up to his longtime friends to clear his name and restore order. This is the third time he is being framed, or so, and it is starting to wear thin. The plot haven't changed much, just the surrounding scenery, and the soup is starting to wear thin. Everything becomes a repeat of stuff from previous movies.Sure there was an unexpected turn of events when the leader was killed, and there was a good potential story going on between Chicken (played by Jordan Chan) and Lam Suk-Fan (played by Karen Mok), but it wasn't fully enough to carry the movie.I, personally, found this movie to be weighed down by a thin storyline and too much repetition of stuff already done in the previous two movies, and as such, "Young and Dangerous 3" became a rather disappointing movie. On the upside, the movie does have room for some character growth and development, and focus more on the storyline than on the action, much similar to part two. The overall production value to the movie had increased dramatically, making the movie seem much more professional, contra what was seen in the previous two movies. Plus, they also cut out all the comic book art entirely, which can be debated whether or not that is a good thing. Personally I think the comic book art was a bit distracting in the first two movies.Despite it not being quite up to par with the previous two movies, it is still a decent enough movie, and should be watched if you have seen the first two movies in the series.

This is definitely the best out of all the Young and Dangerous Series. The loyalty and comraderie within the triad is well played out and the scene where San Gai is scolded is especially powerful. The way Ekin Cheng just downed all those beers and walked aimlessly down the street is a damn near perfect mimic of what a real gu wa zai would do in such a situation. The ending was great and uplifting, short of giving it away. Definitely the best in the series.I'm guessing that this movie got a low rating from the conservatives who don't like to see the proliferation of the idealization of gangs but I ask that you judge the film on its own merit. This is a must-see if you want to take a look at the gritty life of a Hong Kong triad society member, glorified of course. Enjoy.

The main focus of this movie was set on Chicken (Jordan Chan), it describes the difficultness of reaching a branch leader position. I caught weak points here and there as it shows useless scene of High School students, unknown continuity of Barbarian's position, no strong direction of Chan Ho Nam's love story (played beautifully by Cheng Yee Kin). However, the musical scene when Ho Nam cried and scold Chicken as he loses one of his best buddy (again) really a big help to this movie. I think this is the most dramatic episode of Y&D series.
