This show is nothing short of a masterpiece. It starts as a hilarious High School/True Crime satire and later transforms into a deep meditation on American pop culture. It alludes to Reality TV, Social Media, Mainstream media, Documentary Filmmaking, Teenage woes, Celebrity status, Authoritarianism, Justice System and how the tag of High School Stereotypes remains attached and continues to define someone's life.

I might not be the best person to watch this series. This is because it's apparently a parody of other television shows...shows I have never watched. My daughter laughed and laughed as we watched and mentioned many tropes in the show that were being parodied...and I'll just have to take her word for it!As for the show for those who aren't a reality crime show watcher, it's still worth seeing and is quite clever. But I also have a warning...like many high schoolers I've known (I taught high school), these kids are VERY crude and coarse. Drinking, sex, language AND there are many references to penises. So just be forewarned...it is funny but also a bit offensive.

Not a bad fake documentary, kind of like a teen soap opera. Characters are interesting, well developed and interesting for sure. It, of course, did not take long for one to realize this was not based on reality, or a real student documentary, but I was okay with that. I bought into the story-line, it worked.Since I grew up in SoCal, those students seemed familiar, as did the parties and teachers. Upper-middle-class high school crap, parties and all. It was fun.I will be checking out season 2, hope it is at least as good.
