As Good As It Gets

This is a coming of age storyline that you've seen in one form or another for decades. It takes a truly unique voice to make yet another one worth watching.

The movie's neither hopeful in contrived ways, nor hopeless in different contrived ways. Somehow it manages to be wonderful

This is a two CD four part mini series, but I had the entire story figured out within the first hour. I knew every plot point, every turning point by then, and I pretty much watched the rest of it to see if I was right.I was. Any discerning movie watcher would be.WARNING - NO SPOILERS HERE, BUT I knew Mark's background and "story", who would kill whom and who would be surprised by it, and what legal arguments would be made in court (all the stupid mistakes as the story progressed gave THAT away,) I knew what the verdict would be, and I knew all that before the end of episode one.But even beyond that, the inciting incident was improbable. I mean, no 52 year old married woman would have sex with a (married) man she'd just met minutes before, whose name she didn't even know, especially not in a closet in an empty museum. By age 52, women no longer can claim the innocence of youth. By then,they know better, and have had enough experience with men to know where it can lead. Directly to TROUBLE, either short term or long term or both. I did learn something new, though - the physiological reason rape victims don't report. That was interesting.

Do producers check continuity details?The drama is set now, and made in 2017The defendant is told that she might spend a few days on remand in Holloway Prison. Sounds reasonable, EXCEPT Hollow was closed in 2015.Perhaps the author's mistake but should have been checked, surely?

This miniseries stars Emily Watson as a middle-aged, married scientist who lives and works in London. She meets a man with whom she quickly embarks on a sex-only secret affair, involving having sex in public places in central London. She is raped by a colleague and then asks her sex buddy to kill the rapist. The plot is ludicrous. A quiet, highly-educated, married, middle-aged woman with a successful career wouldn't risk it all by having casual sex with a stranger in public! In the unlikely event that she has a sex buddy, he wouldn't commit a murder for her!

Though, I was in fact hoping to find a 'secret Sherlock' episode, I was happy with Apple Tree Yard as a whole.I see some complaints it was TOO SLOW. It only has 4 episodes, give it a chance, lol. Have a bit of patience.It had intrigue, lust, complicated family and marital relations. Humans that make poor choices and a question as to who is the villain. I loved the sets from just the Apple Tree Yard SW1 Alley to the chapel of the Commons.If people wanted Sherlock and didn't get it, they got a good mystery at least. On top of being a thriller and a damn good drama. You get an insanely intense and mind blowing finale.Emily Watson was great and the rest of the cast were certainly very good. Creepy ending...I hope for another series of this! 8/10
