It's a good bad... and worth a popcorn matinée. While it's easy to lament what could have been...

Khanomi: Big little lies (TV mini series) , is about the lies we tell to ourselves and others in every day of life. In our mind, we are the one who has hardness and problems as we are not able to see other's difficulties and problems in their privacy. The story approaches to its characters as "human being" with all their faults, fears & goodness.

I binged season 1 last night; it's a sort of 'Who's gonna do it to whom?', or Cluedo set in Monterey. Will it be the single mother (1 kid, bullied) with the gun in the coffee shop? Will it be the abused lady lawyer (twins, *SPOILER* bullies) with the tennis racket in the bathroom? Or will it be the hyperactive busybody (2 kids, 2 dads) in the Principal's office? In the end, *SPOILER* it's the Orient Express solution. It's all of them, on the steps up to the school Elvis/Natalie night. And guess who the victim is? Yes, the bad guy. Not the peevish, needy a**holes, the REALLY bad guy. And they all live happily ever after.First off, while LBL is a worthy, earnest, pro-female, anti-bullying, anti-abuse, pro-diversity, quality (ie costly) character-driven drama, there are several issues that drag it down to mediocrity. First off; as usual in California, everybody has plenty of money, big houses, and no medical bills, and they're all WASP apart from the hippie one; even the single mothers in one-room apartments. Which is fine in fantasyland, but it's also depicting foul abuse of women at the same time. Not too much reality at once, eh kids. The school Trivia Night looks like it was put on by the White House, and all the teachers are bumbling idiots.Second, technical. There is often no lighting. This may be naturalistic and technically cutting edge, but it interferes with the drama. Things happen in semi-darkness, while the story flashes forwards and back and jumps between the three main threads randomly. It's simply confusion for its own sake. The same goes for the sound - many lines are completely unintelligible. I know, I kept trying to hear them on replay. And can we please all agree that shaky Steadicam is now over?Third, many scenes are dragged out, especially the end. Presumably you're on your third bottle of Prosecco by then. This is like Ally McBeal done by Mike Leigh, or Desperate Housewives set in Twin Peaks. Too rich.

Very boring, themes and situations seen a THOUSAND times in movies and series. I really don't understand the hype. Way overdramatic. And yes, it IS a chicklit (series, but still based on a book).

The acting, the writing, editing and music are so well-executed and fit together so perfectly that the viewer just falls into the story and doesn't want to leave. I wonder if the book is as good as this series.
