Gripping story with well-crafted characters
The movie is made so realistic it has a lot of that WoW feeling at the right moments and never tooo over the top. the suspense is done so well and the emotion is felt. Very well put together with the music and all.
View MoreJust intense enough to provide a much-needed diversion, just lightweight enough to make you forget about it soon after it’s over. It’s not exactly “good,” per se, but it does what it sets out to do in terms of putting us on edge, which makes it … successful?
View MoreThis film is so real. It treats its characters with so much care and sensitivity.
View MoreAs a woman who prefers clean anime, I heard from a few sources that this anime was really great and was worth watching, so I decided to check it out. To be completely honest, I couldn't get past the first episode. I was so disgusted by the negative, sexist portrayal of men. (SPOILER WARNING)-----Not even one minute past the intro, there's already a male in the show being physically assaulted by a woman, as if that's OK/funny/acceptable. I kept watching, and that's all this show contained - the men are shown as incompetent, weak, pathetic - to the point where the viewers are probably meant to question if the men would even survive without the women there. -----What is it with anime, and portraying men as inferior to women? I noticed this with quite a few different shows. Still, that does not excuse the writers of this particular show of creating this horrible-excuse-for-a-women's-empowerment-anime. What bothers me is that this is going to send the wrong message to girls (that males should be treated as second-class citizens), as well as to boys (that they should feel ashamed of being male). I couldn't imagine the backlash if there was a show depicting women as inferior, getting physically assaulted - shown in a funny, light-hearted manner...
View MoreRarely do I stray from my boyish mentality (explosions, boobs and action) and stop to smell the roses. I saw this box and thought "great it's pink." But I thought too soon. Soo I was gripped to the undeniable story and characters in this anime. Tohru a girl who just wants to make everyone happy decides to live with a house full of men who look at her as their friend and house keeper. Soon they see her as glue holding the family together in a way that most sane people would run in fear. She sees' the dark secrets and family nut job but still wants to help. This ins't a girl it's a saint. In my opinion if your a guy try to see it. If you don't then just stay bitter.
View MoreFruits basket is an anime that can seriously appeal to almost any age. It can make you laugh, cry, and wonder about whats going to happen next. The depth of the characters is amazing, and their problems are realistic. What I was MOST impressed by though, is that each character (although friends) was never the same as another character, Tohru, for example is kind hearted, selfless and hard working, while the 3 men she's taken up residence with (Shigure, Yuki, and Kyo Sohma) are all different from each other AND her. Shigure, is kind, perverted, and a tad irresponsible, Yuki, is polite, soft spoken, and smart, while Kyo is hot headed and has a horrible temper. Many other characters com in with a story, each adding to the background story of each other character, bringing in more and more depth. One thing I wished they had put in the anime was simply more from the manga, as a first manga, second anime person, i noticed that a few story lines had been cut out. However you look at it though, fruits basket is an anime not like any other, truly letting you understand the emotions of each character
View MoreOK, it all started when I was in my bookshop and picked up a free manga sneaky-peek book. There was a Fruits Basket part and I was interested in that so I started collecting the manga. Then in a DVD store, I found the anime...and bought it. I tried to watch it all everyday, it was really good! It still is! I'm a dedicated Yuki fan, of course. Basically, this anime is about a young girl called Tohru Honda who after being forced out of her home, lives in a tent. She comes across her classmate, Yuki Sohma, and he offers her a place to live, along with his two cousins, Kyo and Shigure. But then Tohru finds out that whenever the three, and ten others of the Sohma family, are hugged by a member of the opposite gender, or if their bodies are under a lot of stress, they turn into one of the Zodiac animals, Yuki is the rat, Shigure the dog, and Kyo the cat from the legend... it's funny in most places (especially Shigure) and romantic in other places as Tohru has to decide to break the curse of the Sohma family... All in all, a relief from pokemon/digimon definitely!
